Discover the region
Culture lovers will find surprising trails to explore the capital city of Freiburg and its surroundings. And the Fribourg Pre-Alps, characterized by austere natural beauty, are just as enchanting when viewed from a hiking trail as they are from a bike saddle or even the Via Ferrata.
Hikers also feel like they're in paradise: The official network of hiking trails covers a good 1800 kilometers. Thematic trails tempt even those who do not usually like to hike, and the "Grand Tour des Vanils" guarantees days of long-distance hiking. The network of bike trails in the Fribourg region includes three national, nine regional and four local routes, and the continuously signposted route around Lake Murten is a crowd favorite! The Panorama Bike Route No. 2 offers a true "best of" the Fribourg Pre-Alps.

Off to the outdoors: scenic highlights
Pristine nature, great biodiversity and plenty of fresh air await you in Fribourg. In the south of the region lies the legendary Schwarzsee in the primeval landscape of Brecca, an enchantingly wild valley that was formed tens of thousands of years ago by melting glaciers. Surrounded by steep limestone walls, you can hike here across picturesque alpine meadows and through ancient mountain forests. On the way, there are several alpine huts where you can stop to enjoy the magnificent view and regional specialties.
Further south, on the other side of the imposing peaks above the Breccaschlund, lies the Jaun waterfall. Directly opposite the pretty village center, up to 6000 liters of water per second plunge down into the Jaunbach - a true natural spectacle!
