The mountain range in the Eastern Alps stretches for about 80 km in an east-west direction and reaches a width of 25-35 km. With 2558 m the Kreuzjoch is the highest peak, which makes the Kitzbühel Alps rather low in contrast to the surrounding mountains. The mountains are separated by the Kitzbüheler Ache river into the Glemmtal Alps and the Kelchsau Alps.
The Kitzbühel Alps include popular excursion mountains such as Pölven and Gratlspitz, for families the mountain adventure worlds offer ideal places to go and in winter sports enthusiasts will find the well-known ski area of Kitzbühel as well as the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski circus. The mountains are also a popular filming location for feature films, especially Heimatfilme (homeland-films) are often shot here.

The Kitzbühel Alps are particularly well suited for hikers, as there are hardly any rugged mountain shapes. With the Saalachtaler Höhenweg and the KAT Walk, there are two long-distance hiking trails across the Kitzbühel Alps. Beautiful secluded alpine pastures, peaks with great views, the good mountain air, an extensive network of trails and numerous hiking events in summer ensure a varied stay in nature.
On two wheels you can easily get around the Kitzbühel Alps by mountain bike. Whether leisurely laps in the valley or sweat-inducing mountain routes – over 1000 km of designated bike and MTB trails await adventurers. With the KAT Bike you can find a multi-day tour through the Kitzbühel Alps.
Also in winter you can go on a multi-day route on KAT Walk Winter and KAT Skitour. In addition, there are several larger ski areas with about 900 kilometers of slopes, numerous ski huts and mountain restaurants, as well as events that round off the stay in the Kitzbühel Alps.
