Geographically, Stolpen lies on the edge of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and is surrounded by picturesque hills. The town itself is known for its impressive castle complex, which is perched on a rock and offers spectacular views over the surrounding area.

The main attraction of Stolpen is undoubtedly Stolpen Castle itself. This fortress has a rich history and was built as early as the 12th century. It was once the residence of Countess Cosel, the famous mistress of Augustus the Strong. Today you can wander through the various rooms and be transported back to times gone by.

Besides the castle, there are many other cultural highlights to discover: The Museum Schloss Wildeck displays works of art from the Baroque to the modern age; the former monastery of Sankt Marienstern now houses an old people's home and a market garden with herb garden; and the old town hall with its magnificent Renaissance portal is also one of the sights.

If you are looking for culinary experiences, then you should definitely try local specialities such as "Stolpener Kirsch" or "Stolpener Ziegenkäse" - both are typical products of this region.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there is also plenty to do: Hike the numerous trails through the surrounding forests and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. In summer you can also go swimming or fishing, while cross-country skiing and ski tours are possible in winter.

And if the weather doesn't cooperate for once? Then why not visit the "Stolpen-Bad" adventure pool, where there is a swimming pool with slide as well as a sauna - perfect for a relaxing day indoors.

Overall, Stolpen is definitely worth a trip. Visit the castle, discover cultural highlights, try local specialities and enjoy the beautiful nature. And don't forget your camera - because there are many beautiful places to photograph in Stolpen!
