Pristine, rich in contrast, relaxing, challenging: The Black Forest offers a world of experiences all its own. The landscape is as diverse as the range of outdoor activities it provides. Certified premium hiking trails cater primarily to leisure hikers, while the region’s 1,000-meter peaks are particularly appealing to bikers. Attractions the Black Forest
Experience the Black Forest from above
If you want to experience the Black Forest from a completely new perspective, the treetop walk in Bad Wildbad is the perfect destination. The path winds through the coniferous forests of the Black Forest, leading to the 40-meter-high Panorama Tower. Along the way, you’ll discover interesting facts about the landscape, flora, and fauna of the Black Forest Central/North Nature Park. On a clear day, the view extends across the northern Black Forest all the way to the Alps.
Hiking pleasure at the highest level
In addition to popular long-distance hiking trails such as the Westweg and Schluchtensteig, the many leisure trails in the Black Forest invite hikers to embark on spectacular hikes through forests, meadows, and valleys. Along the way, you can discover numerous scenic huts, waterfalls, and impressive natural landscapes. All of the connoisseur trails are certified as premium trails, guaranteeing hiking experiences of the highest quality.
Challenging or enjoyable: panoramic routes by bike
More than 70 peaks rise above the 1,000-meter mark, offering real challenges for mountain bikers and road cyclists alike. Cycling is more leisurely on the circular routes in the Upper Rhine Valley. With an e-bike, you can easily reach destinations that would otherwise require significant physical fitness, ensuring that no one misses out on the magnificent panoramic views from the Black Forest heights. Selected bike paths for families, such as the Kinzigtal Cycle Path, are particularly well-suited for family trips to the Black Forest due to their gentle gradients, nearby rail connections, and adventure and play opportunities along the way.

This is what the Black Forest tastes like
The dishes prepared by Baden’s restaurateurs are creative and varied. Year after year, gourmet guides recommend nearly 400 establishments in the region. Here, you can experience the sophistication of Baden cuisine, with its Alsatian, Swabian, and Swiss influences. In addition to regional beers and mineral waters, Baden wines further enhance the experience. Whether Ortenau, Breisgau, Tuniberg, Kaiserstuhl, or Markgräfler Land—almost every major Black Forest vineyard is renowned for its award-winning wines.
Skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing for the whole family
In the Black Forest, you can enjoy not only lush greenery but also wintery white landscapes. In winter, ski resorts, extensive cross-country ski trails, snowshoe hikes, and specially designated winter hiking trails invite visitors to embrace the snow. Around the Feldberg—at 1,277 meters, the highest peak in the low mountain range—lies the largest winter sports center in the Black Forest. Families will find numerous child-friendly amenities, including a dedicated children's restaurant, a magic carpet lift, and a ski kindergarten.
Tradition in the Black Forest
Who doesn't know the Bollen hat? The traditional straw hat with its woolen "pollen" is now a distinctive symbol of Baden-Württemberg. Once nearly forgotten, it was rediscovered thanks to the efforts of Emma Falk. Today, despite its relatively small distribution area, it stands as a symbol of the Black Forest. If you want to trace this tradition, there are numerous museums and trails that will guide you along the way.
Only a few other symbols are so characteristic for the Black Forest than the typical hat with the red or black balls, the so called "Bollenhut".
