The Rhön stretches from northernmost Bavaria to Thuringia and Hesse. The core of the Rhön is the UNESCO biosphere reserve, which is home to the Red and Black Moor. Unforested slopes characterize the Wasserkuppe, the mountain of aviators, and a monastery has been in operation on the Kreuzberg since 1620. The baroque town of Fulda, the theater town of Meiningen and the spa town of Bad Kissingen attract numerous tourists. History buffs will not only find castles and ruins, but also the former German-German border in the region.

Natural highlights in the Rhön
Where is the most beautiful place in the Rhön?
In addition to mountain peaks, the Schwarze Moor and Rote Moor are particularly popular nature excursion destinations. The two raised bogs impress with rare plants and animals, information centers, observation towers and bog nature trails. Hikers and cross-country skiers in winter particularly enjoy the paths through the two impressive moors.
The Guckaisee lake in the Hessian Rhön is also worth a detour. The idyllic lake is a wonderful place to cool off after a hike, especially in hot weather.
Active on the road in the Rhön
If you arrive by bike, you can let off steam on 2,500 km of trails and various mountain bike routes. You can cycle high up into the mountains, along rivers and on easy asphalt paths through the mountains. In addition to the Rhön Cycle Path , the BahnRadweg Hessen is particularly popular, but there are also numerous other routes for cyclists.
In winter, skiers are not the only ones on the slopes of the ski resorts ; cross-country skiers also come to explore the extensive network of trails . Winter hikers get their money's worth and tobogganers and snowshoe hikers will also find the right route.
