Black bog

The Black Moor is located near the border triangle of Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia and is part of the Europe-wide NATURA 2000 network of protected areas. The raised bog is home to a large number of rare animal and plant species. As a core zone in the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve, it is a showcase for nature and is one of the most important moors in Central Europe. The moor nature trail Visitors can explore this endangered habitat on a boardwalk about 2.2 km long. Along the boardwalk, 23 information boards provide interesting facts about the Black Moor. At the end of the trail, an observation tower offers a panoramic view. A visit for the whole family To make the moor an experience for the whole family, ten panels with dandelion motifs have been installed. Children can learn interesting facts about the moor in a child-friendly way. And those who want to know what the moor feels like can wade through an artificial moor pool. The foot-washing facility will be shut down in autumn/winter. Schwarzes Moor Information Centre At the Schwarzes Moor Information Centre, visitors can learn more about the Lange Rhön nature reserve and the Black Moor.
