Winter activities in the Hochkönig region
For winter enthusiasts, the Hochkönig region is a stroke of luck, because all around the imposing mountain range there is something to offer for all kinds of winter sports. Those who like to ski on perfectly groomed slopes will be delighted with the ski area, which connects the villages of Mühlbach, Maria Alm and Dienten and is one of the largest in the Salzburg region. The ski area is part of the Ski amadé association. There are 120 km of pure fun on the slopes and great views. A highlight is the King's Tour, which leads over five peaks, 32 kilometers of piste and 6,700 metres of altitude.
The region is also worth a visit for those who enjoy ski touring. We recommend the ski touring trails in Dienten and on the Hochkeil for those who are just starting out. The topics of planning, risk assessment and safety are covered on display boards. In addition, the local mountain guides and ski schools offer courses that are especially helpful at the beginning.
The region also offers an attractive range of cross-country skiing. Wonderful trails for skating wind through a lovely landscape – no wonder this sport is experiencing a boom!
For those who like it a little quieter and prefer to experience nature without skis on their feet, put on your winter boots and head out onto one of the winter hiking trails. Here you can enjoy the peace and quiet and the magic of winter in the Hochkönig region.
Outdoor activities in the Hochkönig region
The villages in the region are the starting point for numerous hikes through the beautiful mountain world. There are 340km of well-signposted hiking trails from which you can enjoy the view of the Hochkönig massif. One of the many highlights is, for example, themed walks to the nearby herb farms.
And mountain bikers don't miss out either, with over 20 great routes to test their skills, for example on the "Flow One" flow trail. More relaxed cyclists and families with children will also find easy, short routes.
In winter, the Hochkönig ski area is part of the Ski amadé association. There are 120 km of pure fun on the slopes and great views. There are also three fun parks and a fun slope. A highlight is the Königstour, which leads over five peaks, 32 kilometers of piste and 6700 metres of altitude.
