Pirttijärvi spin paddling or SUP boarding 6 km, Sotkamo
The relaxing Pirttijärvi spin offers a short paddling route that leads you to the atmospheric scenery of Sotkamo town center.
The Sotkamo town center is squeezed between three lakes. The northern Pirttijärvi has its southern shores densely populated, but the other shores offer rural and lake landscapes to admire. This route takes you to a waterway intersection inhabited since ancient times. For example, there are prehistoric settlements on the shores of Ammonen Island and Kiikarusniemi. People have enjoyed living by the fish-rich lake shores.
Sotkamo harbor offers a good starting point for paddlers and other water users. Next to the breakwater, there is a barrier-free kayak dock easy to launch from.
The Pirttijärvi spin is paddlable by canoe, kayak, and SUP boards or it can be done rowing. When moving by motorboat, watch out for reefs. In stronger winds blowing across the lake, some chop may arise.
You can also start from Hiukka beach, which adds two kilometers to the route length.
Author’s recommendation
You can extend your trip by paddling towards Jataniemi or for example to the east side of the town center in the direction of Syväsalmi. Or stop by Hiukka on the Sapsojärvi side.
