Canoeing from Kratzeburg to Neustrelitz
This route leads from lake to lake through the Müritz National Park to Neustrelitz. With an area of 32,200 hectares, it is Germany's largest national park. Like a chain, one lake follows another here, always linked by the Havel. Most of the route promises relaxing peace amidst untouched nature.

With strong winds, some lakes can have heavy waves. Caution is advised. In Müritz National Park, corresponding navigation rules apply; the core zone (Zotzensee, Jähtensee, and Zierzsee) may only be crossed along the specified buoy markings.
From the Großer Labussee motorboat traffic is permitted. At 4 locations, transfers or locks are required; at the Granziner Mühle a trolley is available for this purpose.

The paddling route starts in Kratzeburg, on the shore of Käbelicksee, the largest of the Havel source lakes. Canoes can be launched here at various spots. The first 23 km of the route are closed to motorboats – up to the Großer Labussee this ensures an undisturbed paddling experience. During the trip, grey herons, kingfishers, and bitterns can be calmly observed. A transfer is necessary at the Granziner Mühle.
Along mysterious swamp banks, you cross the Zotzensee. Then you continue past dense reed banks to Babke. During a break, it's an excellent place to enjoy fish or bratwurst. From the shady, shallow canal in Blankenförde, you can admire quaint boathouses. Shortly after, canoeists experience the wild-romantic side of the Havel. A water lily paradise awaits at Görtowsee. On the Useriner See, the primal nature of Müritz National Park can be enjoyed one last time. The Useriner bathing area invites to rest, before another transfer is required at the Zwenzower lock.
Soon after, you reach Woblitzsee via Großer Labussee – a detour to the small town of Wesenberg is quickly possible from here. Via the Kammerkanal, paddlers soon reach Neustrelitz. From the water, you can already see the medieval Slavic village built directly on Zierker See near Neustrelitz, which can be visited in summer months. Visiting the palace park in the former baroque city is also worthwhile.
