Lentiira is a village near the eastern border, located in northern Kuhmo by the shore of a clear-water lake with the same name. It offers wilderness peace, but also services and interesting historical sites.
Lentiira is a rugged wilderness lake in northern Kuhmo. Its waters flow south through Iivantiira to Lentua lake. The Kainuu Tar Route paddling route starts from Lentiira.
The village of Lentiira is called a church village because it has Kuhmo's second church. The Kirveskansa people built the first already in the 1800s and now there is the village's third church. The village also has its own cemetery. Stop along the way at the Kirveskansa church memorial and the old cemetery of Lentiira.
Tar has been burned in Lentiira, and the long tradition is still cherished. The world's largest tar pit was burned in 2000.
Paddlers and anglers enjoy these waters. Lentiirajärvi offers small open waters but also numerous islands, bays, and peninsulas. This paddling route mostly circles the Niskaselkä side but stops by the north side of Käntinsalmi at Aittoselkä near the current church.
The peaceful paddling route of Lentiirajärvi is also suitable for beginners and family trips.
An alternative starting point is the Lentiira holiday village, where you can also rent canoes and boats.
