Grostè-Seilbahn BergstationSafety information
- With existing old snowfields, the route is significantly more difficult (there are no wire ropes!), therefore it is better to avoid and use the Sentiero Benini when not fully thawed.
- In the gorge and gully sections there is a risk of rockfall triggered by climbers ahead. However, the route is quite seldom used.
- When descending through the scree gully to the Sentiero Benini be careful not to cause rockfall that could endanger the via ferrata climbers below.
- Only undertake in safe weather conditions

Detailed description of the Benini via ferrata: see hereRoadbook
From Rifugio Stoppani first on path no. 305 (Sentiero Benini) to the start of the via ferrata (signboard, inscription on rock block, see photo) at about 2540 m altitude.
From here, however, do not follow the red-white stripes, but the red dots. These initially lead to the right upwards through block terrain, then continue on ledges again parallel but clearly above the Sentiero Benini. In the further course, longer walking sections on ledges alternate several times with short, inclined and not exposed climbing sections that lead to the next higher ledge.
In this way, you ascend step by step without significant difficulties in the NE flank of the Cima Groste and finally reach a short, steep gorge (most demanding section of the ascent), through which the next ledge is reached. At the beginning, in the middle and at the upper edge of the gorge there are ring bolts with which you can secure yourself if necessary.
After another gorge-like section, you reach at about 2800 m the northern end of the flat summit plateau of the Cima Groste. From here in 20 minutes without difficulties to the already visible summit cross.
For the descent, return a few meters on the ascent path, then go right down into the NE flank of the Cima Groste (also marked with red dots). Initially steeply down about 20 m over ledges, then very steeply down a weakly developed gully (see photo). Here again several securing possibilities. At the lower end of the gully a short traverse to the right (SE) to a scree field, over which you reach the saddle between Cima Groste and P. 2851 after a short counter-ascent.
On the other side of the saddle, steeply down a wide scree gully to the already visible Sentiero Benini (see photos) and from there continue to the Tuckett hut.
