Types of paths
- single track path
- normal dirt road
- gravel road
- asphalt
Energy distribution
Out of 250 m of altitude, 160 m is done in the first third of the route, then the slope flattens. Except for the sections before and after Meleg Hill, the route can be run at a good pace throughout.
Recommended period
Can be completed at any time of the day. In strong summer sunshine, expect that a significant part of the route is either not shaded at all or only partially shaded.
Our trail running section's sponsor is Dockyard. The route is recommended by the legendary Csaba Németh, Hungary's most successful active trail runner.
Author’s recommendation
- An hour quickly passes at the Bence Hill panoramic parking lot and the lookout tower above it, so the run can comfortably be combined even with a family program with small children.

Safety information
The loop in the middle of the route and its surroundings are also popular terrain for cyclists, so be prepared for cyclists, especially if you run with music.Roadbook
Itinerary
- From the parking lot, run up to the lookout tower, then cross the paved road behind it and follow the S trail to Körmös Street.
- Here, the S trail merges with the P trail. Follow these to an unmarked path leading up to Meleg Hill, where you run up to the summit.
- From the top of Meleg Hill, descend on an unmarked gravel road to the lower road, where you follow the P▲ trail to Likas Rock, then turn around and take an unmarked path to the right to rejoin the P trail.
- From the P trail, turn left onto the Z trail to start a loop with short sections featuring different markers. From the Z trail, turn left onto the P+ trail. This ends and continues as the P▲ trail, from which you turn left onto an unmarked path. Again turn left onto the Z+ trail, which closes the loop leading back to the P trail.
- Turn right on the P trail and return to the starting point on the familiar route.
Detailed route description
From the parking lot, run directly up to the lookout hill with the spectacular "concrete flower" lookout tower (entry for climbing costs money). Behind the tower, descend along a path to the paved road. Cross it and continue on the S marked dirt road. After passing a few sparsely bushy small hills, enter a pine grove opposite and cross it on a single track path. Exiting the grove, run on a two-track forest road edged on the left. Pass the Soviet memorial, which offers a nice view toward the western side of the lake, and descend to the football field which you cross, then turn left at the limestone fence of the riding stable onto Körmös Street, where the S and P trails merge.
Run up Körmös Street’s asphalt to the point where the S and P trails turn right and continue ascending on a two-track dirt road. Follow this to the point where an unmarked steep path begins to the summit of Meleg Hill. It’s a short section (200 m) but requires overcoming 50 m of altitude difference in one go — the hardest part of the entire route.
There is no view from Meleg Hill, only the old reinforced concrete and the new metal transmitter towers, so the summit experience comes not from panorama but from the fact that you've conquered the highest point (352 m) of Hungary's oldest mountain range.
From the summit, descend on the two-track dirt road. At the bottom, reach a junction with an asphalt road branching right. Continue straight and descend on the single track path, which is also the P▲ trail, down to Likas Rock. This is a spectacular quartzite rock formation, a geological enclave in the granite of the mountain range, historically well documented as it’s mentioned as a boundary stone in a 1295 charter.
From Likas Rock, turn back and after 100 m descend steeply on an unmarked single-track path (40 m descent over 300 m) to the two-track dirt road marked P, where you turn right. From here, be more careful with navigation as in a few minutes you will run through five different trail markers and an unmarked section. Continue on P to a junction where you turn left for about 70 m onto the Z trail (a nice detail: its official starting point is the Zsuzsi Presszó in Sukoró). If you want a slight detour, walking just 50 m further along P will bring you to the Angelika spring. From the short Z section, turn left onto the P+ trail, which soon ends, and continue on P▲ for no more than about a minute, then turn left onto an unmarked two-track forest road. At the end of this section, pass scattered large stones on the right and turn left onto the Z+ trail, which after 100 m brings you back to the familiar wide forest road marked P. Turn right here to run back on the known route to the Bence Hill panoramic parking lot.

Directions
- From the Velence, Enyedi utca bus stop, head north along the S trail, passing under the M7 motorway. You only need to leave the trail directly near the lookout (2.2 km, 104 m altitude gain).
Parking
- By car arriving from the M7, you must leave the motorway at the Velence exit, turn onto Nadapi Road behind the MOL gas station, then to Panorama Road, and finally turn right onto Mély Road. The Bence Hill panoramic parking lot is spacious and free but can be crowded on weekends. In such cases, parking is also possible along the road below the lookout.
