– Start at the Xavier Jourdain parking lot, in front of the building that once served as a grain market.
– Turn left onto Avenue Foch to see the War Memorial, built on the site of a former prison and guarded by two EBRs from the 8th Hussars—the last regiment of the Plessier district—which can be seen at the foot of the town.
– Cross through the 1950s residential neighborhood and head up Hirtzbach Street, passing the Lucien Herr Middle School, the Les Acacias campground, and the JJ Henner High School
– Just before the edge of the Illberg Forest, there’s a beautiful view of the Altkirch hills and the Vosges.
– We cross the Illberg Forest, passing through the German fortifications from World War I, hidden by vegetation.
– As you exit the forest, the trail offers a beautiful view of the Ill Valley, the D419 toward Belfort, and the Lerchenberg, crossed by the new D68, the Aspach bypass.
– You’ll pass through the new Illberg residential neighborhood, walking along Rue des Vallons past the media library.
– Then head back via Rue des Jardins, past the COSEC multipurpose hall and the swimming pool, to return to Place Xavier Jourdain;
Note: The route can be taken in either direction; simply adjust the directions accordingly. In front of this building, leave the blue loop and turn left into the passageway by the clinic, then cross Rue de l’Ancien Hôpital and Place Arnoult (Hôtel de la Patrie)
