From our starting point, the Hammerstiel parking lot in Schönau am Königssee, a very nice and relatively easy path leads to the Schapbachalm, over the Stubenalm to the Mitterkaser Alm. The onward path now leads steeper and more alpine over the Falzalm to the Watzmannhaus (1930 m). Its unmistakable shape makes the Watzmann the landmark of the region. The unforgettable view over the Berchtesgadener Land quickly makes you forget the hardships of the ascent. The return is on the same path.

Roadbook
From the starting point, the Hammerstiel parking lot in Schönau am Königssee, a wide forest road leads to the former site of the wooden hut on the Schapbach Alm. On the other side of the path, a track with moderate incline leads to the Stubenalm. Here, the ascent from Hammerstiel merges with the ascent from the Wimbachbrücke in Ramsau.
Past the Lahneralm, the wide path leads to the valley station of the material cable car of the Watzmannhaus, just below the Mitterkaseralm. After the alpine meadow, the path becomes significantly narrower and at the research station of the Berchtesgaden National Park finally turns into a narrow mountain trail. In numerous switchbacks, the trail overcomes the elevation to the Falzalm, where the view opens into the Watzmannkar. Here the Falzsteig from Kühroint joins before the trail continues together over grassy slopes and a rocky step to the Falzköpfl. Here, at 1,930 meters elevation, stands the Watzmannhaus.

Those traveling by bus should choose Ramsau Wimbachbrücke as the starting point of the route. The RVO regularly serves the Wimbachbrücke stop on the route from the main station Berchtesgaden to Hintersee in the mountaineering village of Ramsau.Get Timetable to destination
Directions
Coming from the large Königssee parking lot: Turn left at McDonald's Königssee and follow the road to the outdoor pool. Opposite the Schornbad, turn left again towards Hinterschönau. At Autohaus Benischke, keep left until reaching the fork at the Gasthaus Bärenstüberl. After this inn, turn left onto the steep Hammerstielstraße and follow it to the parking lot.
Coming from Berchtesgaden station towards Ramsau: Follow the road to Ramsau until reaching the village of Engedey. Within this village, turn left over a bridge and drive up a small hill. At the end of this hill, turn right onto Hammerstielstraße and follow this road to the Hammerstiel parking lot.
Coming from Ramsau towards Berchtesgaden: When reaching Engedey from Ramsau, turn right over a bridge within this village - from there continue as described above.
