Alpine experience required
A more alpine and very rewarding route alternative for sure-footed mountaineers, the so-called Pitztal Glacier Trail starts at Mittelberg using the Pitztal Glacier cable car.
With the glacier express and the Wildspitzbahn you first comfortably ascend to the rear Brunnenkogel at 3,440m. A short detour to the terrace of the Wildspitzbahn is worthwhile, as from here you already have a magnificent view of the Wildspitze and numerous 3000m peaks in the wide surroundings.
From the mountain station of the Wildspitzbahn on the rear Brunnenkogel, you ascend with a view first over the ridge with artificial footholds heading northwest, then descend through the cirque east of the Brunnenkarkopf to a small lake. Continuing westward over the lateral moraine of the Taschach glacier valley downwards and following the markings over a scenic suspension bridge to the west side of the glacier stream. After a short counter-ascent, the route finally descends to the Taschachhaus.
With good conditions and sufficient mountaineering experience, a dream route.
