Challenging mountain hike to the Säuling with breathtaking views of the Allgäu Alps and the royal castles.
The Säuling (2,047 m) rises as a massive mountain massif above Füssen/Schwangau and the world-famous royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. The view of the Ostallgäu lakes and the foothills from the "Guardian" of the Ostallgäu is unlimited. The ascents to the Säuling are all long and partly very steep (alpine hazards).
Alternatively to the route described here, the Säuling can also be reached from Pflach (Tyrol) via the Säulinghaus (1,694 m, staffed).

Roadbook
The start of the route is in Hohenschwangau. Passing Neuschwanstein Castle, you go over Jugend/Marienbrücke (beautiful view of Neuschwanstein) and the water pipeline path to the Säuling (2,047 m above sea level).
The descent (approx. 3 hours) can be done on the same route.
There are paved hiking paths around the castle and along the water pipeline path. Afterwards, a mountain trail with alpine hazards follows. On the last section to the summit, sure-footedness is absolutely necessary (climbing ladder, steep drops).
