The four-day Kaisertour is an "imperial" dream route for experienced mountain hikers
Experience the magnificent mountain scenery of the Zahmer and Wilder Kaiser. Embark on a personal adventure and cross the Kaisergebirge on this moderate hike through the Kaisertal and past impressive steep walls – classics of climbing history!
This great hut tour is best done with public transport. So leave the car in the garage and help preserve this unique mountain landscape!
On the second day of the Kaisertour, we hike from Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte over Petersköpfl (1745 m), Einserkogel (1924 m), and Zwölferkogel (1912 m) to the famous Pyramid Peak (1997 m) and then onwards to Stripsenjochhaus (1577 m). Those who want a less long and demanding stage can hike directly to Stripsenjochhaus without summit ascent. From there, the Stripsenkopf (1807 m) – the hut summit – can be climbed in about 1 hour.

Roadbook
Day 2: - Easy variant: Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte - Stripsenjochhaus
- More demanding variant: Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte - Pyramid Peak - Stripsenjochhaus - Stripsenkopf - Stripsenjochhaus
After a hearty breakfast, there are two options depending on condition and sure-footedness for today's stage:
Easier variant:
Just below the hut, the high trail 811 branches off towards Stripsenjoch. It initially runs almost level, later slightly uphill always beneath the rock outcrops on the south side of the Zahmer Kaiser. At the foot of the Vorder Kesselschneid, a small scree field marks the left trail to Pyramid Peak.
More demanding tour over Pyramid Peak:
The path goes directly next to the hut uphill through sparse mountain forest towards Naunspitze and after about 30 minutes through dwarf pine fields to Petersköpfl (1745 m). Here begins a wonderful summit hike past Einserkogel (1924 m) and Zwölferkogel (1912 m) to Zwölferkogel, a short steep rocky gully you need to descend. After a descent, you reach Elferkogel (1916 m) and then Pyramid Peak (1997 m).
From the summit, it goes down over long stretches through dwarf pine fields in a southwest direction until you meet the high trail to Stripsenjochhaus. Then, as in the easier variant, past the Kaiser spring and Hochalm (1403 m) over Feldalmsattel to Stripsenjochhaus (1577 m). Going downhill again in a southwestern direction until meeting the high trail to Stripsenjochhaus.
Here the two paths meet and after a few minutes heading east, you reach the so-called Kaiser spring. Now you cross the dwarf pine-covered slopes and scree fields beneath the Kaiser walls to Hochalm (1402 m) and continue southward over Feldalmsattel to Stripsenjochhaus (1577 m). Those who wish can still climb the Stripsenkopf (1807 m) in about 1 hour. At Stripsenjochhaus, you spend the evening and night and are catered to by innkeeper Christian Fankhauser and his team with specialties from Tyrolean land.
Easier variant: ascent 630 m, descent 420 m, total distance: 9 km, 5-6 hours.
Demanding variant: ascent 1130 m, descent 420 m, total distance: 12.3 km, 6.5-7.5 hours.
The total walking time is given without longer breaks.
