The tour begins at a leisurely pace in the village of Engelberg, passing the monastery and heading into the peaceful Niedersurenen Valley. If you want to save your energy, take the Fürenalpbahn (bike transport before 9:00 a.m., not guaranteed) or pedal up on your own. The route follows gravel paths past Herrenrüti and the Stäfeli alpine cheese dairy, continuing toward the Stäuber Waterfall and Blackenalp—an ideal spot for a break with panoramic views.
Then comes the final climb: steep, partly rideable, partly pushable, but always flanked by imposing peaks. At the top of the Surenen Pass, the view opens up to the Uri Alps.
The descent begins with a singletrack to the Waldnacht Alp, which is peppered with technical highlights and flowing sections. Further down, trails and road sections alternate until you reach the Reuss Valley. A mix that offers both a challenging ride and plenty of fun.
