Unlike the previous stage, this second part, mainly in the Alsace plain, is a roller stage. Only the ascent to Rossberg with a rewarding view just before Ferrette requires the small gears. Little on asphalt, mostly on natural paths through fields and forests, this section takes us to the Rhine, where we cross to the other side at the Kembs weir (with power plant and lock). This artificial 'island' between the navigable Rhine and the original riverbed is still in France and is a nature reserve. Only at the southern end do we reach German soil via the weir at Märkt. From here, we follow the German bank to the tri-border point at the Rhine port of Basel, and along the Rhine promenade (Kleinbasel) and the Greater Basel district we return to the starting point at the Rhine in Basel.
