Check the current weather conditions, plan your tour carefully, and bring the appropriate equipment! Please note that the tour evaluation always assumes normal conditions – in bad weather or extreme weather conditions, the tour can be significantly more difficult or even impossible to do. Also consider that the weather in the mountains and alpine foothills can change very quickly.Together on the trail! Please be considerate of hikers and walkers as well as agricultural traffic. Make yourself noticed early and reduce your speed; get off your bike if necessary.
We care about nature! Please be respectful of the environment, protect the unique plant and animal life, respect protected and conservation areas, and stay on the marked paths. Take your trash back home and, if possible, travel using public transport.
Tips and suggestions
This tour is also suitable for experienced gravel bikers. However, we recommend wider tires.Roadbook
Start from Mittenwald heading south through the Riedboden nature reserve to Scharnitz. From there, continue to the entrance of the Karwendel valley. The path follows the Karwendel stream and passes wide alpine meadows. Then the steep climb to the Karwendelhaus begins, which invites you to take a break. From the Karwendelhaus, it's only a short distance to the Hochalmsattel before descending down many curves to the small Ahornboden. The tour continues with gentle ups and downs through the Johannistal to Hinterriss. Then it goes uphill again to the Vordersbachau, where the stream is crossed once. There follows the final steep climb up to the Vereiner Alm, which invites you for a cozy rest and refreshment. After that, it goes down again to Mittenwald via the forest road.
