Mountain bike route 5a Lambrecht (short route)
The Gäsbock Marathon starts annually in May in Lambrecht and is considered a highlight for many mountain bikers; this route takes us in its footsteps.
Long descents, challenging trails, but also steep climbs, partly on narrow paths, are on the program here.
The tour starts directly in the town of Lambrecht, known by many bikers as the start and finish point of the legendary Gäsbock bike marathon. We ride on side roads over Sattelmühle with a slight ascent to Frankeneck. Then follows a varied climb, sometimes narrow, sometimes wide, with a descent to Esthal. We roll through the town and follow the road along the Schwabenbach. Rolling terrain continues over a short trail to the Naturfreundehaus Elmstein. Now we bike on a trail past a beautiful viewpoint to Elmstein. Once back in Elmstein, the route goes over Appenthal and Helmbach to Erfenstein. Here you have the option to take a short detour to visit Spangenberg Castle. The medieval castle has been partly reconstructed and also has a highly recommended castle pub.
Varied rides continue over Iptestal and a final trail descent with some switchbacks back to Lambrecht.
OUR PATHFINDER RULES
“Out of everyday life – into nature!” A few basic rules help make the MTB tour a sustainable experience for both people and nature.
- Ride only on permitted paths. According to the Rhineland-Palatinate state forest law, cycling on footpaths is not allowed, except on the trails in our routes.
- Leave no trace. Take your rubbish home and protect our trails by your riding style. Avoid braking with locked tires. Do not shortcut hairpin turns.
- Keep your bike under control. Stay in your comfort zone, adjust your speed to the situation, you must be able to stop within sight! Do not underestimate the technical and physical demands of our routes. Inform yourself in advance.
- Respect other path users. Announce your arrival early, preferably with our pathfinder bell! Do not ride on certified hiking trails. Show consideration for paths shared by hikers and mountain bikers. Hikers have priority. Let other path users pass.
- Respect animals in the forest. We are in their habitat. Give them peace and do not disturb them while feeding. Therefore, avoid riding at dusk or at night.
- Do not build illegal trails. Use existing, approved routes and courses.
- Be a role model. Show through your behavior how mutual consideration works and that it leads to good coexistence for all forest users. Help by following these rules.
These rules are based on the Trail Rules of the German Initiative Mountainbike (www.dimb.de) and the #LoveTrailsRespectRules campaign by Bike magazine.
