IVB MTB route No. 1 - City forest loop
This route is part of an MTB route concept in the Heilbronn district and city district and includes an attractive share of singletrails. These and all other IVB MTB routes were approved and signposted by the "round table" of the Initiative Responsible Biking (IVB) in close cooperation with the Heilbronn district office, the city of Heilbronn, and the forestry authority.
At this point, many thanks especially to the volunteers who made this project possible with great commitment and passion.

Right after the start, the route goes around the Gaffenberg area via singletrail and then with great, rideable hairpin bends down to Köpfersee. Then past the currently closed inn Waldschenke up to a wooden disc (approx. 2 m diameter) from the felled 460-year-old Jägerhaus oak over to the historic Heilbronn quarry.
Here begins – after bypassing the local nature reserve – another scenic and often very flowy singletrail. Please always ride here at an appropriate speed and be considerate, as pedestrians, joggers, etc. are often on this path.
Arriving at the Galgen viewpoint, the route continues to the eastern side of the city forest. Shortly before reaching Paradiesweg, there is a great view over the Weinsberger and Sulm valleys.
Then it goes above the hiking lodge towards Waldheide and past the Reisberg bridge towards Untergruppenbach. Between Obergruppenbach and Donnbronn, at a spot (at the U-Turn sign to the right), you can enjoy a great view of Stettenfels Castle.
Here begins an attractive singletrail that leads over Donnbronn and below Schweinsberg via the Ludwigschanze viewpoint with great flow back to the Gaffenberg parking lot. This trail is also often frequented in both directions by hikers due to its attractiveness.
At the Reisberg bridge (motorway) there is a meeting point with IVB MTB route No. 4 (Castle Route); a combination of both routes is possible.
Please observe the IVB trail rules:
- We respect all forest visitors!
- We stay on the paths!
- We leave no traces!
- We avoid the forest at night!

Currently, only maps for printing and a GPX download are available here.
Since the route concept is to be expanded throughout the Heilbronn district, it will only be decided upon completion whether printed maps will be created for all routes.
