From the Turrach, you go down to Predlitz in Styria, where you turn onto the B 95 to Ramingstein (landmark Finstergrün Castle) and further to the Salzburg district town of Tamsweg (known for the Samson giant). Via Seetal, take the B 96 to Tratten, then turn left towards the Sölkpass. This particularly scenic route runs through the Sölktäler Nature Park, first about 14 km up to the Sölkpass at 1,788 m above sea level and then a further 25 km down to Stein an der Enns. Against the flow of the Enns river, head towards Schladming (annual Ski World Cup night slalom), but at Ennsling, you should already take the less busy turnoff towards Ramsau am Dachstein. On this high plateau, you drive along the southern walls of the Dachstein massif and reach Eben im Pongau via Filzmoos and subsequently the remarkable Radstadt. There, turn onto the Katschberg Federal Road B 99 and reach the Tauern Pass at 1,738 m elevation. Right at the pass is the well-known winter sports resort Obertauern. The route leads down to Mauterndorf (Mauterndorf Castle), and after St. Michael, the ascent to the Katschberghöhe, another popular winter sports area, begins. Downhill goes to Rennweg and further along the Lieser river to the very scenic medieval artist town of Gmünd (Gmünd Castle; Porsche Automobile Museum). At Seeboden, you reach the northern shore of Lake Millstatt (Carinthia’s second largest and deepest lake at 141 m), passing the bathing resorts Millstatt (Millstatt Abbey) and Döbriach to the town of Radenthein (Granatium), where magnesite was mined in open cast until 1965. From there, it goes up to the well-known spa and Ski World Cup resort Bad Kleinkirchheim (Thermal Römerbad and Kathrein Spa) and further via the Turracher Federal Road, which with a max. 23% gradient is the steepest mountain road in the Alps, you reach Turracher Höhe again.
