Westweg stage 02 reversed: Forbach - Dobel
The second stage of the Westweg in reverse direction from south to north.
The Westweg from Pforzheim to Basel, established by the "Badischer Schwarzwaldverein" in 1900, is one of the most beautiful long-distance hiking trails in Germany. The continuous marking with the red lozenge on a white background leads the hiker through wonderful landscapes across the heights of the Black Forest. The total length is about 285 km. Usually, the route is walked from north to south, but it is also marked in the opposite direction. This route leads from Forbach via Kaltenbronn to Dobel. The hiker experiences the tranquility of nature on extensive forest paths. And because it goes along the high paths for many kilometers, there are always magnificent views down into the Alb valley, the Gaistal and the Murg valley all the way to the Rhine plain. Public transport can be used for the return trip.
Author’s recommendation
If time permits, a visit to the Kaltenbronn information center is definitely an enrichment of the hike.

From Forbach station, head north along the railway line towards Murgtaltor. After this, turn right up the Kämmlingweg until you reach the turning area at the end of Lindenstraße. Continue right to the Brückwaldanlage. Pass this above, then sharply left and continue uphill. With a beautiful view into the valley, practically flat until the old Gausbacher sports field. Shortly go left downhill on the drive, then right down a path to the Hexenbrunnen. Continue slightly uphill to the right into the Kauersbach valley. Turn left at the forest edge. Follow the path to the next forest road. First turn right here, then follow the road to the left before the serpentine path branches right to Latschig. Follow this to Latschig. First, the Kleine Latschig is reached with views of Forbach, Gausbach and Bermersbach, then the Große Latschig with a pavilion and views to the Rhine plain. Crossing the forest road, continue out towards Kaltenbronn. A zigzag path bypasses a short steep section, then it goes uphill along the slope to the Drabergütte with a beautiful view. From here, a small stretch on a forest road uphill again, before it goes fairly flat to the Prinzenhütte. Turn left here and follow the forest road to the Hohlohturm. At the tower, turn right and continue over the Hohlohsee to the Kaltenbronn settlement with the information center. Cross the road, then past the wildlife enclosure towards Kreuzlehütte. Continue along the ridge to Langmartskopfhütte. At hut, keep left to Hahnenfalzhütte, then right here and follow the ridge above the Gaistal via Weithäuslehütte to Stierkopf. After rounding this, descend to the Dobel lookout tower and then the last stretch to the spa park in Dobel with the Sonnentor.
