    Safety information

Basically, before every hike on the Wandertrilogie Allgäu you should check the weather. Rain and/or fog can severely reduce visibility, making orientation more difficult. Also, prolonged wet weather increases the risk of slipping.

Since the Himmelsstürmer route runs through the middle to high altitudes of the Allgäu Alps, it is essential that you have alpine experience and sure-footedness.

You should be prepared for exposed, slippery and fall-prone, as well as unsecured passages over rugged terrain with loose scree and even snowfields in midsummer. You should be sure-footed and free of dizziness.

For your safety, some sections have cable protections installed. Some sections also require more stamina due to simple climbing sections. Hand support may sometimes be necessary. At the same time, there are also foot supports installed in some passages. Pay attention to the color coding of the trail category on the signposts.

    Roadbook

From the tourist information located in the spa park, follow the road to the left between the parking lot and residential houses. At the next junction, the Sonnenmulde street, walk through a residential area and follow the blue-red marking. A few hundred meters of meadows lie between the districts of Oy and Mittelberg; the latter is crossed via Mühlbachstraße, Lindenstraße, Dorfbrunnenstraße, and the Hornweg leading to the church and cemetery. At the cemetery, keep left and go through a wooden gate. The path makes a wide left curve, gradually ascends, and leads above Mittelberg with a view of the Grünten on a panoramic trail to a T-junction directly in front of a small forest. Turn right; the view sweeps over the meadows to the Rottachspeicher reservoir and the Nagelfluh chain. After about 1 km, you reach the first fork, a meadow path, which is followed to the right. Cross the Burgkranzegger Horn on a pasture, descend shortly through a dark spruce forest to an asphalt road, and walk left on this road. After leaving the spruce forest, follow the descending path along meadows down to Burgkranzegg. In the village, turn left onto the main road and shortly after switch to a path leading right into a forest area crossed by a stream. Through this ravine, after about 700 m, you reach Burgstraße in Petersthal. Burgstraße merges into Schachenstraße. Turn right, cross the main road (Thalstraße), and enter Im Leer street. After a few steps, turn left into Am Petersbach street and walk to the Rottachspeicher swimming area. Just before it, turn left into Kienweg and follow the wooded shore area. After about 1.3 km, here you are directly between the lakeshore and a district road; cross this road and follow the path on the opposite side along the Rukatzbach stream slightly uphill into the hamlet of Ried. At the intersection, keep right. The path swings left and after about 500 m meets another path. Turn left, cross a stream, and arrive at Uttenbühl. At the T-junction, turn right and after passing a few houses, you soon reach a field path that goes downhill through a forest to the hamlet of Rieder. Between the forest edge and meadows, you soon walk on a meadow path past the Geratser Waterfall, cross a stream, and reach a bench. Continue across a meadow without a visible path, using the forest edge and a fence on your right as orientation. Later, approach the Kranzegger Bach stream and walk along it to a branching path. Cross the stream on this path; soon you have gravel underfoot and, after crossing a district road, pass the village of Großdorf. About 100 m after the road, turn right, keep left at a nearby fork, pass a field barn, and turn right into a spruce forest. Keep left in the forest and follow the natural path to Alpe Müllers Berg. Now climb a meadow path steeply uphill, followed by 83 steps through a forest. Continue on a path past a pavilion (rest stop) and the Vorderburg castle ruins. After a nearly flat section, cross a path and climb uphill again. However, this ascent is much gentler than the previous one. A game trail indicates the direction across a meadow, followed by a short piece of asphalt, which after a few steps is left by a not-so-easy-to-recognize path to the right. Walk a few meters over a meadow, turn right at the forest edge, and after about 800 m reach a clearing. The route goes left onto a meadow path, where for almost 900 m you walk straight across the meadow, through a small wood, and over another meadow area. A raised hide serves as an orientation point. Immediately after it, sharply turn right onto a narrow path and after about 150 m turn left at the fork. The nearly flat ridge path leads after about 1.4 km to the summit cross on the Falkenstein. After about 150 m, turn left, after about 100 m turn right again and follow the ridge. After about 700 m, turn right at a T-junction. The curve-free path leads constantly gently downhill over a pasture. The Gebhardshöhe with its pavilion is a wonderfully quiet and scenic resting place. From the Gebhardshöhe, descend on a meadow path to Bergstraße and from there via Falkensteinweg and An der Halde to the town center.
