Rota Vicentina Touring Bike offers the provision of a GPS track, that links the airports of Lisbon and Faro, giving you access to RV networked partnership companies with bike-friendly services.

The Touring Bike complements the Rota Vicentina MTB trails, which also includes a network of over 1000 km for mountain biking, anda also the "Off the Beaten Path" Gravel route.

It was created as a response to numerous requests for a route between the Walking Trails (Historical Way, Fishermen’s Trail e Circular Routes) and the airports of Lisbon and Faro.

Connections or intersections with the different walking and mountain bike trails of the Rota Vicentina is ensured at various points between Santiago do Cacém and Lagos.

The total length is just over 500 km and although it can be divided personally for each cyclist, it is usually divided into 10 steps of about 50 km each. This trail includes mainly cycling trails (particularly in and around Lisbon and Faro) and roads or paths with reduced car traffic.

From its inception there was a desire to establish a balance between the coast and the interior, providing numerous incursions into areas rarely visited, both along the coast and away from it.

In the download, the file identifies not only bike friendly accommodation but also bicycle repair services located within the Rota Vicentina’s region.

Track only available in GPS. Download the track or use Outdooractive mobile app.

    Author’s recommendation

Although it can be divided up in the most convenient way for each cyclist, the Touring Bike route is formally divided into 10 stages of around 50 km, and can be done North to South or South to North (specif route - search for it on Routes).

There is information on this website: https://rotavicentina.com/en/accommodations/ Personally, I was not sure if the hosts would speak English, so I first trying to use Airbnb, but it seems that in Portugal, the hosts don't respond fast enough or they simply cancel your booking. Then I was using Booking.com, where I could very affordable hostels on the way and always a guaranteed reservation, so that was very useful for me.
