Through Konská to Žiarska Hut

The route leads on asphalt roads between Liptov villages and field roads under the majestic Western Tatras. From the Liptov Basin there are beautiful views also of the Low Tatras to the south. Above Konská the road leads through meadows soaked with water after the rains and continues on a rocky forest road to the mouth of Žiarska Valley. The ascent to Žiarska Hut (5.6 km) is on a rather bumpy asphalt road, next to the Smrečianka stream. The hut is open year-round. Once they even allowed me to lock my bike in their garage and continue hiking to the ridge.

From Žiarska Hut you can expect a great, almost 800 m long, descent to Liptovský Mikuláš. The main road can be avoided through Závažná Poruba and a field connection to Liptovský Ján. Beyond Liptovský Ján another field road leads over the dam in Podturna, then past the mineral water spring and a cable bridge over the Váh river to Liptovský Hrádok.
