We start our tour directly at the source of the Mindel. It springs from the Mindelmühle north of Mindelberg, east of Ronsberg, and west of Kaufbeuren. After 87 km, it flows into the Danube.
To reach the source, we begin our bike tour at the hamlet of Wolfs, municipality of Ronsberg, and ride towards Eglofs. Halfway, a signpost guides us to the Mindel spring.
After arriving at the spring in the middle of the forest, we follow the road and turn left before the Mindelmühle. We head straight towards a small forest. Now we keep right and ride along the forest edge until we reach the Mindel again. At the junction, we go left and over the bridge. After 200 m, we turn right into a woodland and cycle uphill. When we reach the crossroad, we turn left and ride to Reichartsried. We pass through the town and follow the road to Schönlings. After leaving the town, it goes downhill in serpentine curves. At the bottom, we turn left at the next intersection. We follow the road, keep right at the next fork, and cross the Ascherbach. Now we ride to Bayersried and turn left at the main street. Shortly before the end of the village, at the fork, we keep right and follow the road to the forest, called Bärenwinkel. Now we pedal 1.5 km straight through the forest area. At the forest edge, we see Benkhofen to our right. At the next fork, we turn left, cross the Mindel, and follow the paved path to the forest edge. Here, it turns right. We see the wet meadows with their biotope. At the main road, we turn left. After 600 m, it goes right through the Petersbühl forest. We cross the MN 5 and continue along the field path. Now it goes through the forest again, past the Celtic rampart, keeping right at the next crossroad. We ride along the forest edge below the Rosskopf. At a clearing, we see the flood protection dam to the east, which we ride on during our tour. Here we turn right, first crossing the Auengraben and finally returning to the renatured Mindel. Now we turn left and cycle to Dirlewang. Upon arriving in town, we first follow the road and then turn right into Allgäuer Straße, immediately left onto Mühlbachstraße. This section is signposted with bicycle trail signs. At the brewery, we turn left and cross the Mühlbach. Then we turn right into Bgm.-Dorn-Straße. We follow it to the end and then turn left. We are now on Saulengrainer Straße, cross the Mühlbach and the Mindel again and follow the sign "Zum Sportplatz". We continue on the paved bike path out of Dirlewang, past the hammer smithy, and find ourselves on the left bank of the Mindel. On the bike path, we pedal left past Apfeltrach, go under the A 96 motorway, leave Gernstall on the right, and soon find ourselves below Mindelburg. Now we reach the skater park and the Maristenkolleg in Mindelheim. We continue following the bike path. Arriving at Champagnatplatz, we turn left, cross the Mindel, and continue on the bike path. We now ride on Georgenstraße until, at the traffic light, we turn right into Maximilianstraße. We pass through the "Untere Tor" and past the Jesuit Church. Arriving at Marienplatz, we reach the center of the stage destination Mindelheim. Here it is worthwhile to take a walk through the historic old town with its colorful townhouses, numerous cafés and restaurants, museums, or even a 25-minute hike to Mindelburg. To continue, we head north at Marienplatz and follow Kornstraße. After passing the entrance gate, we cross Teckstraße and immediately continue into Westernacherstraße. We follow it for 500 m and then turn right into Birkenweg. At the first fork, we keep left and continue along Birkenweg. We now go straight ahead past the sewage treatment plant and leave Mindelheim on the bike path.
After passing left past Lohhof, we reach a fork. A natural pond invites to rest. We turn left and immediately before the Mindel turn right again. Now we ride along the Eastern Mindel to the next fork and keep left. We follow the road, cross the railway track, and reach Hausen. However, we do not enter the town but turn left before the Mindel, cycling along the town's edge on the bike path. After crossing the Mindel, we cycle past the tennis courts and into the market town of Pfaffenhausen. Here we turn first left and initially follow Industriestraße, then keep straight and continue along Blumenstraße and then Mindelbergstraße. Watch out, you can already see the stork's nest. A sign also points this out. We continue following the road and cross Mindelheimer Straße. After Kirchplatz, we turn right into Marktgrafstraße and shortly thereafter left into Mühlstraße. We follow it until shortly before the town's edge, then turn right and cross the Mindel. We follow the bike path. After crossing Krebsbach, we turn left. Enjoy the path through the agriculturally shaped landscape, past Pfaffenhausener Moos, and stay on the bike path along the Mindel to Bronnerlehe. We pass the town and continue straight ahead. After crossing Weißbach, we pass several ponds. We see the market Kirchheim on the right. If you have time, you should make a detour into the pretty, well-kept town with its impressive Fugger palace and the famous Cedar Hall. However, on our tour we turn sharply left. Before Weißbach, we turn right again. Shortly before Hasberg, we turn right and ride along the right bank of the Mindel to Hasberger Straße, turn right, ride a short stretch, and can then immediately turn left onto the bike path. At the next intersection, we turn left and then immediately right again and continue on the right bank of the Mindel. We meet the Flossach, cross this small river, and cycle further along the Mindel bank.
Mindelzell lies soon to our left. We continue on our bike path and can admire a Mindel that has remained in its original state. Our destination lies ahead of us: "Thannhausen". We leave Mindelstadt north of B 300 via Mortain-Platz, ride past Stadlerstift to Wiesenstraße, cross it, and keep left, following the Mindel and its western bank. Soon a bypass road is crossed, and it continues to Münsterhausen and Burtenbach. Only there do you turn left, soon turn right between two gravel pits northbound again, and reach the road to Kemnat. It is crossed, and shortly after, on the bike path, the Mindel until "Lußweg". We turn left into it and then go straight north to the old Humprechtsmühle. Soon a paved path follows. You turn left into this, almost returning to the Mindel. Right uphill goes to the little castle Eberstall.
Those who stay on the Mindeltal cycle path turn right before the bridge northward and come to the road Schönenberg-Jettingen at a beautiful bathing pond. Straight ahead goes into the town. The castle shows to the right. The cyclist leaves the market on the road towards Wettenhausen, turns north at the bus company "Dirr," and after driving through the industrial area reaches the Jettingen bypass road. It is crossed, soon also the motorway, and soon it goes past the rest stop into Burgau. The path always stays close to the Mindel, or you can keep left and ride up into the town center.
Outward from the town, it goes through the industrial area and onto the road-adjacent bike path to Mindelaltheim. The name is misleading, we are not yet at the destination. At a poultry farm, you turn left towards the railway line and then continue north. Soon the bike path turns left to "Lüßhof". From there, the tour is identical with the Kammeltal cycle path coming from the west to Offingen. The Danube cycle path is then not far. To the Mindel mouth, you ride through Bahnhofstraße into the Hirschbach industrial area and then along the road to Gundremmingen. At the Raiffeisenbank, you turn left into the settlement, pass under the bypass road, then cross the railway track to the right. At the sign "Auwaldstadion," turn right, then continue straight on this path through a short forest section to the factory canal. Along this, left to the Danube, our destination.
