Safety information
The route runs on a 700 m long section, from the turnoff to the Žarnovka valley to the turnoff to the Korytnica spa, along the busy first-class road 59 Ružomberok - Banská Bystrica. Increase caution and keep to the right edge of the road!Tips and suggestions
The route can also be done in the opposite direction - from Liptovská Osada via Patočiny and Sedlo pod Babou to Korytnica. However, be prepared for a steep climb of about 550 m to the Príslop saddle.
Along the entire route, we did not see a single sign marking a cycle path.
The route can be combined with the cycle path to the Branisko Waterfall or to Vlkolínec.
Roadbook
We start this moderately difficult cycle route in the center of Donovaly near the church. We continue on an asphalt road through the settlement of Mišúty to the last houses and then cross a short section of gravel road across the ski slope from Nová hoľa. After a while, the asphalt road continues again, down which we take a short descent to behind the Senior House at the crossroads of hiking and cycling routes in the Pod Magurou area.
Here we take a forest road following the red cycle path towards the Korytnica valley. This section is easy, more or less flat; after a while, it turns right and by a pleasant descent, we reach the valley mouth directly at the main road. Here we turn left and with increased caution continue along the roadside about 700 m to the turnoff to Korytnica - spa. We turn right and after 1.5 km reach the former spa buildings in Korytnica. At the Svätopluk guesthouse, we turn right, and initially, the cycle path leads on an asphalt road, identical to the blue hiking trail, which climbs 1.3 km to the junction of cycle paths.
Here it is possible to turn right towards Sedlo pod Babou, where the Baba chalet and gazebo are located. If you like nice views, it is possible to continue all the way to the Baba hill itself. There is no official cycle path there, only a forest trail. We return from Sedlo pod Babou to the junction and continue straight towards Liptovská Lúžna - Patočiny.
A forest road with a slight climb leads us to the Príslop saddle. At the time of our visit, the marking was missing here, so it is necessary to watch the terrain. At a clearing with a view of Salatín, we turn right into the forest and continue on the cycle path by a steep descent towards Liptovská Lúžna. This approximately 550 m long section is the most technical on the whole trip and requires increased caution when descending on rocky-grassy terrain. The descent ends in a wide meadow with beautiful views of Veľká and Malá Chochuľa and the Prašivá massif.
We continue across the meadow towards the chalet area, where we turn left towards Patočiny. Here awaits us a beautiful road with a gentle descent along the Skorušovský creek. At the next cycle path junction, we can either turn left or choose the route through Liptovská Lúžna to the Patočiny saddle. We head right to Patočiny and continue with a short descent to Liptovská Lúžna. We join the asphalt road and at the next junction turn left towards Liptovská Osada. After a while, we are greeted at the beginning of Liptovská Osada by the modern Gothal complex, where we can have a tasty lunch at the mountain hut and recharge electric bikes at the charging station. If we have time, we can swim in the water park.
From Liptovská Osada, at the junction with the state road, we cross to the other side and behind family houses turn left onto Cyklokorytnička towards Korytnica. Along this popular cycle path connecting Ružomberok with the former spa town, we continue 7.5 km and reach an intersection where we continue straight on the state road. We again reach the mouth of the Žarnovka valley, from where we came from Donovaly to Korytnica. Here we turn right and return along the red cycle path all the way to Donovaly to the Pod Magurou area.
Then we continue turning right directly to the village center, or turn left and reach by asphalt road up to the lower station of the cable car to Nová hoľa with many attractions for the whole family (bobsleigh track, trampolines, Mouse water park, carousels) and refreshment options at the Husky bar or the Chata pod Magurou.
