CAREFUL! - Campaign for considerate coexistence in nature

    • Fire & Smoking - Making fires, smoking and grilling are strictly prohibited in the forest and must absolutely be avoided! Fires and thus severe damage to nature and wildlife can only be prevented this way.
    • Be considerate when traveling - Always behave considerately, kindly, and respectfully toward everyone you meet on the way.
    • Nature conservation - Stay on designated paths and avoid unnecessary noise when you are in nature. Leave the forest by dusk at the latest to avoid disturbing the rhythm of nocturnal animals.
    • Picnic & waste - Remember a trash bag for on the way and take your waste back home. Use only furnished resting places for breaks and picnics.
    • Keep dogs on a leash - Please always keep your dog on a leash. Other visitors and animals will thank you.

    Author’s recommendation

If you still have two to three hours, a detour to the Annweiler Castle Trail is definitely worth it. In addition to historical highlights and bizarre rock formations, you can expect wonderful views over the green hills of the Wasgau.

    Roadbook

The tour to Site 3 in Leinsweiler starts at the Sports Field Vorderweidenthal. Follow the local circular hiking trail No. 10 to the Cramerhaus Lindelbrunn. There you can stop for a break and visit the Lindelbrunn ruin. Upon arrival, walk past the left of the Cramerhaus and stay on the "blue cross" and Nature Friends trail markings. Follow these markings for 2 km to the PWV shelter near the Rötzenberg. Now follow the August-Becker-Hiking Trail for about 800 m. After 800 m, turn right and after another 100 m, keep left. After 200 m, bear slightly left towards Hohlgasse. After 300m, you will reach the street "Am Altenberg." Cross this towards Völkersweiler. After 1 km, you will reach Lindelbrunnstraße in Völkersweiler. Now walk about 300m towards St.Silvester. There turn left and after 100 m, enter the Kastanienbusch. After 200 m, keep right and stay on the Kastanienbusch. For the next 1.2 km, follow the markings of the August-Becker-Hiking Trail again. At the end of the street "Am Zollstock," cross the L494 and after 400 m, turn right onto the Keschdeweg. After 300 m, you will reach the B48. Cross this as well and follow the markings of the August-Becker-Hiking Trail and the Keschdeweg. After approximately 1 km, turn right onto the local circular hiking trail No.16 towards the parking lot. At K2, turn right to then turn right again after 100 m and continue following the August-Becker-Hiking Trail. Follow this for 700 m and then keep left. After about 500 m, you will reach K2 again, which you cross and then follow the Keschdeweg and August-Becker-Hiking Trail towards the Windhof parking lot. At this fork, keep right towards the Almmühle parking lot. Now follow the August-Becker-Hiking Trail for 1.5 km towards the wandering junction Am Zollstock. Keep in mind that you still have to walk another 700 m to Site 3.

    Author’s map recommendations

We definitely recommend taking a topographic hiking map at a scale of 1:25,000. The State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation Rhineland-Palatinate offers maps for the entire Palatinate Forest Nature Park. For all trekking sites, the following maps are required:

Nature Park, Palatinate Forest Sheet 1 (Site 9,10) or Sheet 2 (Site 8,9,10) as well as Sheet 8 (Site 1,2,3,4) and Sheet 6 (Site 5,6,7), Sheet 4 (Site 13,14).

    Equipment

Since the trekking sites on the Southern Wine Route are somewhat off the villages and common hiking trails, you should of course also carry the appropriate trekking equipment with you. Here we want to give you a little reminder of what should not be missing in the backpack:

Clothing/Rain protection:  All-weather suitable clothing is always an advantage - even on the sunny Southern Wine Route it can unfortunately sometimes rain.

Sleeping: In the backpack should not be missing - tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mat, bivy sack, or others...

Food: Water bottle and/or thermos, stove including fuel and provisions, cutlery/dishes, can opener, lighter, pocket knife, pots and water container, garbage bags

Washing: Toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, towel, comb, razor...Emergency/Health: Personal medications, first aid kit, cough drops, insect repellent, tick tongs, sun protection, mobile phone, emergency numbers and ID card

Orientation: GPS device, hiking maps, binoculars, compass, travel guide

Luxury: Books, games and entertainment for a cozy gathering around the campfire

Food supply: Many different dining options in the nearby towns. Huts of the Palatinate Forest Association and the Nature Friends are usually open on weekends and holidays (sometimes also Wednesdays). You have to bring your own water. With a small grill rack or even a foldable camping grill, you can conjure up a great meal over the campfire. But grilled sausages on a stick also taste excellent in nature...

Other: Camera, toilet paper, lock, flashlight, batteries,

And of course, you should always have your booking confirmation for the trekking sites on the Southern Wine Route in your backpack....
