Weingarten-Trail
The Weingarten Trail hike, which is held once a year in mid-October (in 2025 on October 19), consciously combines hiking and enjoyment, with nature and its advantages also playing a role.
Carinthia has also developed into a wine region in recent decades, with dedicated winemakers especially from central Carinthia. Although the cultivation areas are relatively small, the wines produced already compete with the good Austrian quality wines. Therefore, it is natural to hold a special hiking event with vineyard visits in the beautiful landscape between mountains and lakes. The route, with about 30 kilometers, leads very diversely over paths, through forests, and to special landscape highlights, which are mostly also connected to viticulture. This includes the St. Ulrich church with the church vineyard, Glanegg Castle with the Lassnig castle vineyard, the hotel-restaurant-winery Trippel – a wonderful place to enjoy wine – and the Neumaier vineyard at the Spiess wine tavern! The highlight of the tour is the mountain vineyard of the Köck family on the Pollenitzen, with a panoramic view of Lake Ossiach. After a rest at the nearby Gasthof Wadl, the remaining kilometers back to Feldkirchen can also be done, preferably via the Buttazoni snack station, where a shaded spot has been created on the beautiful terrace through old home vineyard vines. If you're lucky, you might also get grape juice from the vines here! Overall, hikers spend about 70% of the time on forest, meadow, and sand paths.
Author’s recommendation
Those who want to complete the route as a round trip should best return via the Buttazoni snack station on the Pollenitzen and the Lindl district back to the starting point in Feldkirchen! Worth it, with a total of 34 kilometers!

Roadbook
Start is in Feldkirchen, where you walk along the new "Path of Hydropower" (bike and footpath) to Haiden near the GH Untermoser and reach St. Ulrich with its church and church vineyard via a meadow path. Continue on an asphalt road to Rogg, where a sand road leads to Agsdorf. A hiking trail through a forested area leads to the upper part of Agsdorf, past the Dopplerstubn, then via narrow streets to Rottendorf and further to Friedlach, where you soon see to the right the impressively beautifully renovated Glanegg Castle nearby, with a wonderful castle vineyard. Naturally, we climb about 100 meters elevation up to the castle and also visit the Lassnig wine tavern if it is open. Afterwards, you cross the federal road at Mautbrücken. From here, over Schmammbach to Hart and then to Mattersdorferhof. Via a meadow path and forest to the idyllic Weingut Trippel, with the opportunity to replenish your energy reserves. In another 15 minutes to Lake Maltschach with the Seewirt as a stopover. The route then continues on the right around the lake, walking partly on the Slow Trail path, to the Spiess wine tavern and then to Sittich. From here, turn left at the former GH Rauter down to the Turracher federal road and cross it! Further to Markstein - at Hotel Nudelbacher, follow a hiking trail to the Pollenitzen with Gasthof Wadl and the Köck vineyard (750m) with a beautiful viewpoint. During the event on October 19, this is the destination, but the rest of the year or if you want, you can go down a meadow path south to the Buttazoni snack station and via the Lindl district back to Feldkirchen with a total of 34 kilometers and about 8:30 hours!
