Traumschleife Gräfin Loretta (Countess Loretta dream loop)
The German Hiking Institute rated the dream loop with 84 experience points!
There is a hikers’ car park directly on the bank of the Nahe, 400 metres to the official start. The Frauenburg is the first highlight of the route and can be reached after just 1km.
Countess Loretta von Sponheim chose the Frauenburg as her retirement place. She married Heinrich II of Sponheim-Starkenburg in 1315, who died shortly after. In economically and politically difficult times, she steered the county’s fortunes.
Up to the Nahekopf, fantastic views into the Nahe Valley and the Hunsrück heights surprise again and again. As part of the Rhineland-Palatinate cultural and regional concept, a modern replica of an imperial avenue has been built on the Nahekopf.
The path is narrow and leads along “the troll path”. Once at the top, an excellent panoramic view awaits. Behind Hammerstein, the trail winds its way into the Nahe Valley, followed by Teufelsgraben and Weibersprung. On the opposite side of the Weibersprung is the Klausfelsen, which drops precipitously down into the valley.
Passing the “Elves Swamps” and a wetland biotope, you get closer and closer to the starting point of the tour.

Tips and suggestions
Information for dog owners:- Difficulty: moderately difficult, low tar content, many narrow paths, well suited for an extended walk over uneven terrain.
- Distracting stimuli: Due to its course above Frauenberg, the Traumschleife is located between the railroad line, country road and military training area. Depending on the volume of traffic, the road can be heard from the trail. In Hammerstein, the trail runs parallel to a quiet local road for a few meters. It should be noted that the background noise of the military training area can sometimes be very loud during training operations. Please keep skittish dogs on a leash throughout. On the Nahekopf, a paddock with goats and sheep is passed. There is a medium volume of hikers on the premium trail, predominantly in the recommended direction of travel, so hiker encounters should be expected, but fewer oncoming hikers.
- Water/Shade: The dream loop Gräfin Loretta leads predominantly through wooded terrain. Right at the beginning around the Frauenburg there are two small streams that can be used to cool off. Further on, there are water sources at the Heidenquelle viewpoint, at the Rinzedell rest area and in the Nahenixen area (note: no drinking water!).
- Trash cans/cleanliness: On the Traumschleife, the principle of "what goes on the trail goes home with you" is followed as far as possible. Therefore, trash cans are only available in isolated places. The remains of dogs and humans should not be left on/along the trail, so that the enjoyment of the hiking trail is preserved for everyone.

After another short climb we reach the Nahekopf, on the left is the viewpoint "Wildelei". We follow the edge of the hill. Before the barrier our path turns to the left to the Keltenquelle. We cross the field path and walk to the Rinzendell refuge. Behind it we turn right and soon left. We follow the slight ascent and after 200 m we reach the turnoff to a forest path, which we follow to the resting place "Dirks Ruh". From this point of the hike you have an overwhelming view to the Erbeskopf, Idarkopf, the mountain range "Mörschieder Burr" and the Nahe valley.
We continue downhill, turn sharply right after 500 m, until we bypass Frauenberg after a short stretch following the Jägersteig to the right. At the end of the Jägerpfad we turn right. Soon after we turn right into the valley of the Klausgraben. After 900 m we turn right, pass "Willrich's Hain", cross the ford and march to the left along the water until we turn sharp right onto the poacher's path and follow it to the Hammerstein refuge.
Continue left on the forest path until you reach a fountain, turn left behind the fountain, follow the grassy path until you cross the road bridge and reach the Nahe bike path. Cross the bridge and follow the path along the water until you reach the cycle path again. Cross the wooden bridge and turn right into the meadow. After passing under the railroad line, we soon turn sharp left into the beech forest.
Our path leads us to the lookout point "Weibersprung" with a view of the Klaus rock. After a short distance we cross under the railroad line again and follow the Nahe cycle path to the right. Here we turn right into a nature trail that leads us across the "Elfensümpfe" after about 1.5 km to the starting point.

Hiking footwear recommended! Our tips for carefree hiking fun
Hiking is the perfect sport. With the right clothes and shoes, it’s twice as much fun. Functional clothing, poles and breathable backpacks are good choices when hiking. But good footwear is indispensable. Sturdy jogging or leisure shoes are at best only suitable for short distances on flat paths. For longer walks, we recommend sturdy hiking boots with non-slip soles. Also remember to take sunscreen and a drink. A litre of water is best.
