Tips and suggestions
The signage for the summit route follows the diamond-shaped signs of the Black Forest Club (yellow diamonds on the summit route). At signpost locations, the paths have an additional sign with the respective route name. This additional sign indicates the color of the diamond to follow on the trail. The additional signs with the route names are ONLY at the signpost locations!Roadbook
The hike starts gently in Simonswald at the Sägplatz. Behind the church, it even goes slightly downhill. At Weberloch, the path follows the stream to the mill. Then it gets steep. The narrowing path winds zig-zag upwards. Your heart pounds, your steps shorten, the landscape becomes more pristine. At Höllkopffelsen you stand high above the Simonswald valley. A short break. Then wild nature on the rocky ridge. The path still climbs. The narrow, steep trail, with rocks and roots in the way, demands your attention. At Schultiskopf is a small bench, just right for a breather. Up to the highest point at the inconspicuous Obereck, you hardly notice the ascent.
Halfway at Kostgefäll. Below, the brook babbles. In the soft, fragrant grass bed you recover from the alpine part of the route. With a view of the Kandel, you start the second part, which will take you to Hörnleberg. With practiced steps, you reach Tafelbühl. Wonderful view from the forest clearing. Then it becomes demanding again on the narrow path to Hörnleberg. One last short, sharp climb to the chapel. The view rewards all previous efforts.
Almost light-footed, you descend on the Zweitälersteig. The forest opens, and you stand only 100 meters above Simonswald. Suddenly you feel your body, which has accomplished a lot today. Along the brook, which flows richly from the idyllic Kostgefäll, you already dream of a good snack in one of the inns in Simonswald. Just a few more steps. Then you made it.
