Tips and suggestions
The signage of the summit route follows the diamond-shaped markers of the Black Forest Association (on the summit route: yellow diamonds). At the signpost locations, the paths have an additional sign with the respective route name. This additional sign indicates the diamond color to follow on the route. The additional signs with the route names are ONLY at the signpost locations!Roadbook
The hike begins gently in Simonswald at the Sägplatz. Behind the church, the path even descends a few meters. At Weberloch, the path follows the stream to the mill. Then it becomes steep. The narrowing path winds zig-zag upward. Your heart pounds, your steps shorten, the landscape becomes more natural. At Höllkopffelsen, you stand high above the Simonswald valley. A short break. Then wild nature on the rocky ridge. The path still ascends. The narrow, steep trail, with rocks and roots in the way, demands your attention. At Schultiskopf there is a bench, just right for a breather. Up to the highest point at the inconspicuous Obereck, you barely notice the climb.
Halfway at Kostgefäll. Below, the stream gurgles. In the soft, fragrant grassy bed, you recover from the alpine part of the route. With a view of the Kandel, you start the second part, which will take you to Hörnleberg. With practiced steps, you reach the Tafelbühl. Wonderful view from the forest clearing. Then it becomes more demanding again on the narrow path to Hörnleberg. A final short, steep ascent to the chapel. The view rewards all previous effort.
Almost light-footed, you descend on the Zweitälersteig. The forest opens and you are only 100 meters above Simonswald. Suddenly you feel your body, which has given much today. Along the stream, flowing richly from the idyllic Kostgefäll, you are already dreaming of a good snack in one of the guesthouses in Simonswald. Just a few more steps. Then you have made it.
