From Yarlovo, the trail leaves the slopes of Vitosha and crosses the wooded ridges of the Verila hills. The route follows forest tracks and rural roads through a quiet landscape of meadows, scattered farmsteads, and mixed woodland.

The Verila range forms a natural divide between the Sofia basin and the valleys south of the Struma region. For centuries, local mountain routes connected villages, monasteries, and grazing grounds across these hills, away from the main roads of the plains below.

Descending from the hills, the trail enters the Belchin valley at the medieval remains of the Tsari Mali Grad. The stage ends in Belchin, a settlement known for its mineral springs and its position between the mountain ranges of western Bulgaria.

    Roadbook

From the Vitosha foothills above Yarlovo, this alternative route to Belchin leads southward into the gentle, rounded heights of the Verila range, a low mountain belt forming the quiet divide between Vitosha and Rila. The trail follows old pastoral tracks across open meadows and scattered pine groves before beginning its descent toward the valley below. As the hills fall away, the first landmark to appear is the ancient hilltop stronghold of Tsari Mali Grad, its restored walls and towers rising above the surrounding fields. From here, the path drops into the basin of Belchin, a village with deep historical roots and thermal springs, marking the end of this peaceful traverse across the Verila uplands.
