Sklabiňa Castle

Many castles are visible from a distance and dominate their surroundings. Sklabiňa is different. Everyone passing through the Turiec Basin vainly searches for the castle with their eyes. It cannot be seen. It is hidden in the ridges of the Veľká Fatra. Although not high, from the highest point of the castle you can see far into the distance. On one side is Katova skala, on the other the Malá Fatra and the view covers almost the entire Turiec, so that nothing escapes the attention of the old castle lords.

In March 2020, the owner of the castle became the Donjon Civic Association, which strives to revive it. For visitors, after a short walk from the village of Sklabinský Podzámok or a small parking lot by the road, in addition to the castle there is also a museum accessible in a building in the forecourt and a new exhibition about the architectural development of the castle with a small lapidarium in the southern bastion near the first gate. Entrance to the castle is charged.
