Rockenhausen - path abandoned settlement Wittgemark
The circular route initially follows the course of the Alsenz downstream with orange marking. Then along the edge of the Katzenbacherhang nature reserve up to the height above the village of Würzweiler. Afterwards, you pass the site of the former hamlet Wittgemark, which mainly consisted of a forester's house. However, entries from church records indicate that families indeed settled in Wittgemark. Birth announcements and deaths are listed there. Throughout the route, impressive views of the North Palatinate hills open up. In the memoirs of the country doctor Adam Karillon from the 19th century, the forest worker settlement appears in his descriptions of the Donnersberg crossings to the widely scattered patients.

Safety information
Especially in autumn, note that the fallen leaves on the ground can conceal unevenness, roots, stones, or holes in the path. After thunderstorms or heavy rain, trees may still fall or branches drop even afterwards. Especially under adverse weather conditions, natural paths can have muddy and slippery sections. Not all rocks or abysses are secured with ropes or railings. Surefootedness is required in places. You must expect such path impairments when you go hiking. If you think certain sections are impassable for you, you should avoid them.
NOTE:
We strive to announce all closures caused by forestry work or hunting societies on this platform. Nevertheless, there are situations where hiking trails are closed and we may not have been informed. If you unexpectedly encounter a trail closure or detour, please heed the instructions for your own safety.

Equipment
For our hiking routes, we recommend the following equipment as standard:
- Sturdy footwear
- Clothing adapted to the weather
- Sun and rain protection
- A sufficient supply of food and drinks, as there are not always dining or shopping opportunities available or open.
- Although the paths are consistently very well marked, it is advisable to always carry a suitable hiking map for safety reasons, so that you can, for example, quickly find a safe area in case of a thunderstorm or emergency.
