Foucaultsches Pendel im alten Wasserturm
One of the few Foucault pendulums in public space in Germany
Many people know the Foucault Pendulum in the Panthéon in Paris, but one in Rockenhausen, the small cultural metropolis of the Northern Palatinate? Yes! In the former water tower of the Alsenz Valley Railway at the station, the pendulum, created individually for the town, can be admired all year round through full glazing. The world-famous physics experiment was created by the French physicist Léon Foucault in 1851. With the help of a giant pendulum, the experiment proves that the earth rotates without any astronomical observations.
An information board on site explains the details of the experiment.
