Exciting route through an exceptional forest area. Hikers will not encounter exotic animals in this primeval forest. However, wandering through the landscape, which has been able to develop without human influence for over 10 years, will make every hiker curious to return. Short but demanding route with hilly sections and narrow paths.

Attention: in some sections, walking the route may be made difficult by fallen trees in the primeval forest area.

The primeval forest route runs through the southern part of the overall 1,011 ha "Primeval Forest at the City Gates." Since 2002, this area has been allowed to develop largely without human influence and has been released from forestry to become a natural ecosystem. The path leads through a fascinating natural experience area and is characterized by constantly changing forest landscapes: lively bubbling streams, small forest lakes, uprooted trees, marshy swamp landscapes, and an attractive relief – the increasingly adventurous and natural terrain is where the Primeval Forest Route winds through, offering a varied hiking pleasure especially for younger explorers. A green oasis in an intensively used environment, right on the doorstep of Saarbrücken.

The recommended start and endpoint is the Forsthaus Neuhaus with the NABU forest experience center. Alternatively, access is possible from the Saarbahn Heinrichshaus stop via a 300 m long access path.

    Attention:

Entering the forest and walking the trails is fundamentally at your own risk!

Depending on the season and weather, increased sure-footedness is required on certain trail sections. Please wear clothing and hiking boots appropriate for the season and conditions, with suitable tread. Be cautious of breaking branches and damaged trees. In strong winds and in winter due to snow and ice, dangers from falling trees and dropping branches increase.

    Roadbook

From Forsthaus Neuhaus, the path descends over a meadow and past the old wash fountain into the Steinbach valley. The route turns right and follows the valley off the main paths over the wooded heaps of the former Steinbach pits. On this section, you can discover deadwood and untouched pond areas with wildflowers.

The path continues over old wooded mountain heaps. A detour leads steeply up the "Little Fuji," a cone-shaped heap hidden in the forest. From there, the path climbs high up just before the Heinrichshaus settlement and then turns towards the Naturfreundehaus Kirschheck.

It passes a memorial forest and a longer straight section on a wider path. Then a path leads down again into the Steinbach valley. The Steinbach is crossed, and in a small loop, the path steadily climbs back to Forsthaus Neuhaus.

Ja, man kann den Weg mit Hund laufen. Es sind zwar zum Großteil schmale, zum Teil unebenen Wege (was ja aber das Schöne des Wanderweges ausmacht), aber das dürfte für einen Hund kein Problem darstellen
