This beautiful premium hiking trail leads over the ridge of the Höllenberg, between Spirkelbach and Lug. Beautiful viewpoints allow a view from Haunstein over Lug, Wilgartswiesen to Annweiler with the highest mountain of the Wasgau, the Rehberg. Numerous viewpoints allow these panoramic views. Especially beautiful is the view from the small Ferkelstein and from the Friedrichfelsen (Luger Fritz). Several resting places and a PWV shelter invite you to linger. As a ridge hike, the tour has a character that somewhat recalls ridge walks in alpine areas. Orientation: The tour is very well signposted throughout. Experienced hikers can do without a GPS / map. Types of paths: almost exclusively narrower trails Panorama hiking trail over the ridge of the Höllenberg. Refreshment options: none on the tour.
Author’s recommendation
Carry enough drinks and food as there are no refreshment options on the route.
The route is especially charming in autumn.

Possible extension of the tour with another ridge hike: Spirkelbacher Höhenweg (original tour), PalatinateRoadbook
From the hiking car park, head northeast on forest trails, initially uphill, later downhill. You reach the Spirkelbach sports ground on its right edge and continue along.
At the end of the sports ground, the path leads back into the forest on the Spirkelbach Höllenberg Tour (SHBT). In a large right curve, you reach the approach to the small Ferkelstein.
Continue in larger switchbacks to the large Ferkelstein.
From here, continue southeast. Follow the ridge of the Höllenberg for about 3.5 km. The path runs along a gallery of old boundary stones.
Upon arrival at the Klingelkopf, the highest point of the tour is reached.
The tour then descends slightly to the Ochsenbornquelle junction.
From this point, it goes uphill again along the mountain ridge. The path follows an extended left curve, turning towards the east.
At the "Lug" junction, turn right and follow the Friedrichfelsen signpost.
From there, continue to the Höllenfelsen. Here, turn right again onto the Palatinate Forest path "Blue Cross".
From now on, it goes continuously downhill to the forest path junction south of Spirkelbach. There, turn left and after a short distance turn right again.
Continue downhill on a narrow hollow way. You reach the K54, cross it, and traverse into the meadows in the Spirkelbach valley, following it northwards.
Then turn right again and cross the K54, after which you have reached the starting point.
