Ernst Schlemmer aus Landau betrat 1907 als erster den Gipfel des etwa 60 Meter hohen Felsen. Zusammen mit Freunden bezwang er den Gipfel durch einen Seilüberwurf vom Nachbarmassiv aus.

Erst am 14.04.1911 erkletterte Friedrich (genannt "Fritz") Mann, von der Ostwand aus, den Fels als erster ohne "unerlaubte" Hilfsmittel.

Seither trägt das Wahrzeichen des Wasgaudörfens Lug den Namen "Friedrichsfels" oder "Luger Fritz".

Wer den Friedrichsfels von der Nähe bestaunen will fährt am Ortseingang von Lug (von Sarnstall kommend)

rechts die "Gartenstraße"hoch, weiter bis "Im Maisfeld" auf einen kleinen Parkplatz. von dort dem Hinweisschild "Friedrichsfels" folgen. (Etwa 15 min. zu Fuß)
