The hike begins at the “Alte Schule (old school)” on Jakob Kneip Strasse.
The local poet Jakob Kneip, born in Morshausen in 1881, is the best-known son of the community. In his texts you can see the love for the landscape of the Hunsrück and its people.
You leave Morshausen at the edge of the village and enjoy views far into the Eifel. The carved wooden figure "Jupp" stands at the beginning of the mine path. The lower part of the path leads to the spoil dump and the entrance to the Theresia ore mine. In the Baybach valley you pass some fish ponds, the historic coal mine of the Theresia ore mine, the Mohrenmühle, the Franzenmühle. Then the path turns to the "Perdskimbel". The path - past "Hampit, der Jäger" and "Haacks Köppsche" - leads to the start of a steep serpentine path. The path leads directly to the rock formation of the Murscher Eselche.
The rock offers impressive views of the Baybach Valley. On the way to Morshausen you hike through the so-called "Hinterwald" and come to three wonderful viewpoints. On a small loop through the village, we admire the lovingly restored half-timbered houses, the Schwengelbrunnen, the St. Lambertus Church and the Backes, which is also home to the Jakob-Kneip-Museum.
The hiking trail was rated 91 points by the German Hiking Institute.

    Author’s recommendation

Morshausen is well worth a short stay: the impressively renovated half-timbered houses “Finke”, “Dinnes” and “Dommerscher” invite you to be amazed and the Schwengelbrunnen is more likely to be in the Hungarian Pussta.

    Roadbook

We start our hike at the village square in Morshausen, where Jakob Kneip, writer of the early 20th century, attended school in the old village school. The local poet was born in Morshausen in 1881.

North of Morshausen we continue our hike with views far into the Eifel towards the Baybach valley. The way into the valley leads along the historic colliery path. The citizens of Morshausen used this path 150 years ago to reach the galleries of the Theresia ore mine. Ore was mined there from 1859 to 1886. On the way we will meet some mine ghosts and a miner.

After reaching the Baybach Valley, the first stop is the Hotel Forellenzucht, which invites you to take a rest. After that, the path leads us along the fish ponds to the foot of the pit slope, where the historic colliery house is located.

For the next two kilometers, the wild and romantic Baybach is our companion. We pass the renovated Franzenmühle and shortly after turn left towards Perdskimbel. Here the Baybach is a bit deeper. This place used to be used for learning to swim.

From the valley we now hike upwards again. We meet "Hampit, the hunter" and soon reach Haacks Köppsche over a rocky ridge. The nature lover and globetrotter Georg Haack had created a nature reserve at this spot in the 1920s, expressing his admiration for the poet Hermann Löns.

Then it goes over curved serpentines steeply up to the rocky viewpoint, which gave the name to the dream loop. When you then enjoy the view from the top of this imposing rock, you know that the effort of the climb was worth it.

Finally, there is a final loop through the Hinterwald. On a stretch of 500 meters we see three viewpoints, one each looking south, west and north.

At the end of this round we reach the village of Morshausen.

Ehrenburgblick https://goo.gl/maps/DK33Q5ESBRAZYHJ5A
