After starting the stage in Lenzkirch, the path first goes uphill for quite a while to 1100 meters at Waldhöfen. There the two variants of the Mittelweg branch off and only meet again at the common destination in Waldshut. From the elevation at Waldhöfen, the western variant slowly descends towards the Schluchsee. On the way, a detour to the Riesenbühlturm is highly recommended because of the magnificent panoramic view from there of the Schluchsee, the Feldberg, across to the Baar and, in good weather, to the Alps.

The hiking trail runs along the Schluchsee for a while, the largest lake in the Black Forest and also the highest reservoir lake in Germany. The Schluchsee is the largest of several reservoirs of the Schluchsee power station and serves as a reservoir for using hydropower to generate electricity.

From the massive dam of the Schluchsee, it descends to Eisenbreche and from there climbs again to Blasiwald. In the area, there used to be several glassworks where glass products were made. Operating a glassworks was a monopoly in the Middle Ages both for the regional landlords and for monasteries, here the Monastery of St. Blasien, which is just a few kilometers away. Interesting facts about glassblowers and glass carriers can be discovered on the Glass Carriers' Trail. The business was always steeped in legend and provided material for fairy tales.

Häusern originated in the 11th century from the Wittlisberger Hof as a brotherhood farm of the Monastery of Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen. There are also connections to the Monastery of St. Blasien. At the site of the old Wittlisberger Hof, the Wittlisberger Chapel was built in 1995, located directly on the Mittelweg and offering a wonderful view of Häusern and its surroundings.

    Roadbook

The stage begins in Lenzkirch at the town hall and follows the federal road for a short distance before turning right onto Bühlstraße and continuing uphill to the waypoint Am Geopark (Geological Trail). Here you have a beautiful view of the high valley of Lenzkirch. At the fork at the waypoint Parkplatz Fuchsfarm, keep right and go uphill through the forest to the waypoints Hinterhäuser and Waldhöfe. Here the western and eastern variants of the Mittelweg split.

On the western variant, turn right at the waypoint Waldhöfe and continue to the waypoints Vogelhaus and Riesenbühlweg. Here a detour to the Riesenbühlturm with a wonderful panoramic view of the Schluchsee and its surroundings is worthwhile. Shortly thereafter we reach the outskirts of Schluchsee below a hotel and the waypoint Schluchsee/Rathaus. Through the Kirchsteige, continue to the waypoint Alte Schmiede and on forest paths to the waypoint Kohlgrube. There the path leads across the federal road and shortly thereafter over the railway line on a bridge at the Seehotel Hubertus to Seebrugg station. At the waypoints Seebrugg/Jugendherberge and Seebrugg/B500, respectively, keep right and walk for a while between the lakeshore and federal road. Between the waypoints Schluchsee/Dam, the path crosses the dam and then leads left downhill to Eisenbreche. Via the waypoints Blasiwald/Sommerseite, Blasiwald/Straße, Blasiwald Althütte, it goes uphill to the waypoint Am Schmalzberg and further on a pleasantly walkable forest road gently downhill via the waypoints Sandgrube and Rotrütte to the waypoint Wittlisberger Chapel. From there it goes via the waypoints Scheuerrain and Häusern/Alte Post down to the waypoint Häusern and over the B500 into St.Fridolin-Straße to the town hall, the stage destination.
