Liptovský Castle from the village of Kalameny
The ascent to Liptovský Castle is an easy route, also suitable for a family trip, for which you should definitely allocate at least half a day. The atmosphere with a touch of history is perfectly complemented by a panoramic view in all directions.
Liptovský Castle was the highest situated castle in Slovakia. It rises on the Sestrč hill above the villages of Kalameny and Bukovina. Due to its location, it served a defensive function. Only part of the wall remains under an overhang of grassy soil.

Roadbook
At the end of the village Kalameny, there is a parking lot in the immediate vicinity of the pond, where parking fees are sometimes collected, and from there the yellow and blue hiking signs lead towards the castle. Our route follows the yellow sign, which is the most popular among hikers, also the shortest and probably the least demanding. The path quickly goes through a large meadow, then through a forest trail where the first views of the Low Tatras, the Western Tatras, and you can also clearly see Pravnac and Čerenová rock appear. Finally, the last obstacle is a metal ladder which must be climbed to reach the summit. After overcoming the ladder, you walk on the Sestrč hill and see an area with wooden bridges and a gazebo. The place offers views of Liptov and also Orava. To return, take the blue trail on the opposite side back to Kalameny. The blue trail is quite steep and rocky right from the start, but after a while, you find yourself in a meadow. You continue on a forest path and reach the Anička spring. From there it is just a short distance back to Kalameny.
