The Saualpe belongs to the Lavanttal or Noric Alps and is bounded to the north by the Klippitztörl, to the east by the Lavanttal, to the south by the Drau and Jauntal valleys, and to the west by the Görtschitz and lower Gurk valleys. The main peaks are (from north to south): Hohenwart (1,818 m) The prominent peak is the northernmost of the Saualpe. Geierkogel (1,917 m) Steinerne Hochzeit (2,028 m) Forstalpe (2,034 m) Hafeneck (over 2000 m) Kienberg (2,050 m) Gertrusk (2,044 m) Kaiserofen (2,037 m) Ladinger Spitz (2,079 m) Sandkogel (2,011 m) Unnamed peak between Ladinger Spitz and Speikkogel (2,029 m) Speikkogel (1,901 m) Großer Sauofen (1,895 m) Kleiner Sauofen (1,830 m) To the north of the mountain range, a road crosses the Klippitztörl, a ski and summer tourism area. The Saualpe is characterized by hilly, rounded shapes from which individual rock piles, the so-called ovens, protrude. There are also small bodies of water on the Alps known in the area as "Meeraugen".
