Hiking tour "Winzer zu Winzer" / Stage 1: Landau - Ilbesheim - Siebeldingen
The first cozy stage of your hiking tour "Winzer zu Winzer" starting in the city of Landau through the picturesque vineyards through the wine village Ilbesheim to your first stage destination Siebeldingen.
The first stage of your hiking tour "From Winzer to Winzer" initially leads you through the fortress city of Landau, by the way the largest wine-growing community in Germany. Along the vineyards around Landau, it goes to Ilbesheim, where you can pick up your picnic and enjoy it, for example, on the Kleine Kalmit, which offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Palatinate Forest and the vineyards. Strengthened, the tour then continues to your stage destination Siebeldingen. Here you will find the Wein- und Sektgut Wilhelmshof where you can redeem your vouchers for your wine tasting. With this first rather short stage, you start your hiking stay comfortably and pleasantly.

From your starting point at Landau main station, follow Ostbahnstraße through the center of Landau. Continue a bit on Badstraße until you reach "An 44". "An 44" is a monument zone with typical bourgeois houses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, named after Fortress Work No. 44. Along the edge of Schillerpark, follow An 44 to the left and after crossing the street you enter Goethepark. This park of about 5.5 hectares is styled as an English landscape garden and is Landau's oldest park. Today, it serves as a "citizens' park," an oasis for all seasons, meeting point, and venue for many events. On the 100th anniversary of poet Johann Wolfgang Goethe's death, the then "Westpark" was renamed "Goethepark" in 1932. You exit Goethepark at Landau Cemetery and follow Drachenfelsstraße. At the end, keep left and pass through Parkanlage Südwest.
At the end of the park, continue straight on the paved path through the vineyards to a bench under a tree. Here, briefly turn left and then right onto the unpaved path. At the end of that path, turn left again and then right. You can already see the Wollmesheim church tower a bit hidden behind the trees! After a short street crossing, you reach Wollmesheimer Höhe. In March and April, many almond trees blossom here, lining the street with beautiful pink blossoms. Enjoy the blossom splendor at the rest area directly at Wollmesheimer Höhe. Continue straight ahead on Wollmesheimer Kelterweg: On your way to the approx. 1200-year-old wine village Ilbesheim, the information boards inform you about the grape varieties grown here. As you continue along the path, you can see the Palatinate Forest straight ahead. Also, spot the Madenburg a bit to the left and Münz ahead? At the path's end, Ilbesheim wine village is already in sight. Turn left once more and follow the path through the village to Kalmitgasse. Walk left along Kalmitgasse until you reach the Ilbesheim town hall. Here, you can head to your picnic provider and pick up your SÜW picnic! Then continue right past the town hall towards Ilbesheim church. Check out how many wineries you can discover on this short stretch through Ilbesheim! At the church junction, turn right, then shortly after, immediately left uphill towards Affenschaukel (signposted: Circular routes 1 and 5, Kleine Kalmit, Affenschaukel). The climb here is initially strenuous but rewarded by breathtaking views on Kleine Kalmit. Our tip: Enjoy your picnic on Kleine Kalmit! Follow the switchbacks up to 271m, the highest point in the Rhine Graben, and enjoy your picnic with a unique panoramic view of the Palatinate Forest and the German Wine Route. Here you will find several picnic and rest benches, e.g., at the chapel, under the lime trees, or at Kalmit vineyard – please take your trash with you after the picnic and dispose of it properly, as we want to preserve this beautiful nature for everyone!
After your refreshment, follow Kalmitweg until you reach Arzheim. About halfway between Ilbesheim and Arzheim, there is a shelter in case the weather changes. From here, you can discover many sights along the Wine Route on a clear day: Saint Anna Chapel in Burrweiler, the Rietburg in Edenkoben, and even Hambach Castle in Neustadt! Our tip: Try the "Skyline" function in the SÜW app, which shows you sights directly on-site through your phone camera. Upon arriving in Arzheim, pass through the village along Kalmitstraße, then turn right along Arzheimer Hauptstraße, and after crossing the street at the zebra crossing, turn left. From now on, follow the Winzer round tour Landau until you arrive at your stage destination Siebeldingen. Siebeldingen is also signposted soon. Siebeldingen is an ancient wine-growing village, first historically mentioned in the city rights granting of Annweiler by Emperor Frederick II in 1219. Enjoy your wine tasting at the Wilhelmshof wine and sparkling wine estate.
By the way: If you still have time and energy after arriving in Siebeldingen, a visit to the neighboring village Birkweiler is worthwhile! Perhaps visit the wine pavilion of the Siener winery or drop by the St. Laurentiushof to finish the day.
