On this hike, you have the choice of driving up to the Aualm or hiking up. You have to pay € 5.00 for the drive up to the Alm. The Aualm is an alpine hut that has been rebuilt in recent years. Nevertheless, it has remained an ‘Alm’. The dairymaids are already waiting for hungry hikers with home-made delicacies. Everyone is spoilt here with bread, butter, cheese, sausage or bacon, for example. The route continues uphill. In front of you is the mighty Schuhflicker, one of the three limestone mountains in our valley. The hiking trail takes you downhill to the Schuhflickersee lake. It is remarkable that there is no inflow or outflow to this lake, but the water level always remains constant. According to legend, it is connected underground to the Tappenkarsee in Kleinarl after a wagon wheel that fell into the Tappenkarsee was suddenly found in the small Schuhflickersee.

You go by car on the Rattersbergweg in the district of Unterberg to the Aualm. You hike up the path no. 34. Then you descend to the Schuhflickersee on the path no. 37 (approx. 1 h). Back on the same route.

Directions
Go by car or hiking taxi to the Unterberg district and continue along the Rattersbergweg towards Lainholzbauern and on to the car park just below the Aualm. Pay € 5.00 at the barrier on the way to the Alm.

Parking lot below the Aualm. You could also park directly at the Aualm, but there are not many parking spaces there, so we recommend choosing the parking lot below the mountain hut.Coordinates
