The varied circular hike leads through the idyllic Kirnbach valley, a home of the Bollenhut. With scenic views, it goes over the "Sommerberg" and the Jakobus Chapel back.
Kirnbach, a district of Wolfach, is one of the three original homes of the authentic Bollenhut. Along the idyllic Kirnbach, we first walk on the Bollenhut Talweg through the lower valley and learn interesting facts about the Bollenhut tradition from numerous boards. Benches and fountains invite you to linger and admire the landscape, which is characterized by charming Black Forest farms.
Culturally and historically interesting is the Jockele mill with an overshot water wheel (built 1715). It was restored and made fully functional under the direction of the Black Forest Association Wolfach. The "high-wheel saw" is a development of the once common knock-saw in the Black Forest. A special feature is its combination of sawmill and grain mill.
After the leisurely walk follows the steep ascent from Kirnbach valley to Morgethof, rewarded by wide views. On the descent to Wolfach, we visit the Jakobus Chapel and enjoy the view of Wolfach from Käpflefelsen with the Golden Ball.

Roadbook
From Wolfach train station (260 m), we initially head towards the town center and then turn right at the signpost "Post" onto Siechenwaldweg. From here, we follow the Großer Hansjakob-Weg (marker: black slouch hat), straight to the WW "Siechenwald", past the Rappenfelsen into the Schmittegrund.
Here the Kirnacher Bollenhut Sommerberg-Weg joins. With views of the Kinzig valley and Farrenkopf, we reach the information board "Above the Schmittegrund" (310 m). According to it, a Roman brickyard stood here on the Roman road Strasbourg-Rottweil. After the bridge over the Kirnbach, we turn left at the WW "Einet" onto the Kirnbacher Bollenhut Talweg. A well-maintained gravel path runs along the idyllic Kirnbach. Wooden sculptures and numerous panels point to the long tradition of the Bollenhut.
At the WW "Unterwöhrlehof-Wehr", we leave the Großer Hansjakob-Weg and continue following the Sommerberg-Weg.
At the Jockele mill, the craft of the millers can be explored annually on German Mill Day. Immediately afterwards, the Martinsbrünnele also offers strong spirits for tasting.
In the mid-valley lies the village center of Kirnbach with the Protestant St. Nikolaus Church (390 m). Just before the church, we shortcut left to the opposite guesthouse Sonne on Talstraße. It not only offers a place to rest but also displays the Bollenhut costume.
The Sommerbergweg leads backwards along a short section of Talstraße and then steeply uphill to the Morgethof (600 m) with a beautiful view back into the Kirnbach valley.
At the WW "Horbensattel (620 m)", we leave the Sommerberg-Weg and now follow the golden yellow Wolfsangel in the blue circle field as marker. The Wolfsangel is part of the Wolfach coat of arms and takes us back there, first on a meadow path to the right to the Horbenhof. Old millstones are set up here as seating to enjoy the view over the heights of the Kinzig valley during a rest. Then we descend on the Kinzig-Neckar-Weg (blue diamond) to the left down to the St. Jakob Chapel. It lies on the Kinzig valley Jakobusweg, which is integrated into the section from Loßburg to Schutterwald. After a contemplative rest, we follow the Wolfsangel on a rocky path over Jakobsberg to a rest area. The pavilion on Reutherberg opens the view over Wolfach. An even more spectacular viewpoint is the Käpflefelsen, which we reach via the stations "Riegelsbergweg" and "Gesundheitsbrünnele". Below lies the Fürstenberg Castle. Unique is the golden ball covered in gold leaf, which shines in the sunlight from the town.
Over the reservoir on Reuterbergweg, we finally reach the remarkable town center of Wolfach before returning to the starting point.
