Challenging day route from the mountain village Hinterhornbach up to Hochvogel.
From Hinterhornbach, follow the tracks of the 5th stage of the Grenzgänger route to Hochvogel. From the Landgasthof Adler, the path first climbs steeply through the forest. At a hut, there are still old signs marking the well-known Bäumenheimer Way, which has been closed for several years due to high risk of falling rocks.
The path continues to climb through the forest towards Schwabegghütte, where the view of the uniquely beautiful Lechtal panorama opens up for the first time. In short switchbacks, we reach a small ridge over a dwarf pine slope.
Above us towers "King Hochvogel", to the upper right the Fuchsensattel is already visible. But to get there, you still have to cross a wide stony cirque, the Kuhkar. From the Fuchsensattel, the mighty-imposing north face of Hochvogel inevitably comes into view and accompanies us during the descent to Salzboden.
The peaceful small hollow with its little stream forms a complete contrast to the dark Hochvogel face. Now the ascent to Kalter Winkel begins. The path winds first through scree, then over sparsely vegetated ground upwards. The 5th stage of the Grenzgänger now leads further in a northwest direction. We leave this path and turn south towards Kalter Winkel.
For the steep, partly icy year-round snowfield, surefootedness is required. Light crampons are definitely an advantage. Afterwards, high mountain feeling sets in. Rock towers and stony bands dominate the scene. With light scrambling, it goes over rocky steps towards the summit cross, where a breathtaking view awaits.
The return route is the same as the ascent!
