A few hundred meters from Skalisko (1,293 m above sea level) there is a peak called Volovec, which forms a double peak of the namesake massif. It offers a unique panoramic view of the Slovak Ore Mountains, High and Low Tatras, Levoča Hills, Slovak Karst and others.
The route to Skalisko leads from the village of Čučma. The green hiking sign accompanies you throughout your journey.
Initial climbs alternate with flats, which in turn alternate with climbs. Pleasant hiking through deciduous forests later turns into a route with a high mountain character. Before the final ascent to the Skalisko peak, you will find a stop at the Volovec mountain hut. This hut is open continuously during the summer months. In winter, it is only open on weekends. There is a large gazebo near the hut, which has sheltered many groups of hikers.
The final climb from the hut to the summit is steeper. The path is intertwined with tree root systems and rocks. After the ascent, you reach a smaller clearing where you will see the Skalisko tourist sign. The highest point of Skalisko, however, is formed by a group of limestone cliffs about 10 m high and 40 m wide on the right side. Climbing them offers a unique panoramic view - one of the most beautiful in Slovakia.
On the route, you will find, in addition to the mentioned hut, various rest areas in the form of wooden seating.
The ascent to Skalisko from the village of Čučma (north end of the village) is about 6.5 km and takes about 3 hours.
